This statue appears in the pose known as "Mary, Queen of Heaven". Every pose of the Virgin has a specific designation. It is undoubtedly dressed in flowers because it is May. May is generally considered a month devoted to contemplation and reverence for the woman known to those of us in religious studies circles as the BVM. Just thought I could use my college education here.
