Dr. Granville's (1238 H Street)

I noticed that there is now a notice posted in the window of 1238 H Street. Joe Englert mentioned at last Tuesday's ABL meeting that he planned to open (but had not yet put in a liquor license application for) a new establishment called Dr. Granville's, but he did not provide further details. I mention in a previous post the rumor that the space would be transformed into a Belgian beer & food themed spot. The posted notice confirmed that rumour & also mention that the tavern would feature a jukebox & a singer accompanied by live piano playing.

I don't know. Some of the "themes" these places are going to have seem a bit cheesy to me. Hopefully when they're actually put in place I'll be pleasantly surprised.

I think a lot of the places will be pretty general. The Rock & Roll Hotel & Show Bar are really the only ones that carry a strong theme (outside of the old standby sports bar). Take a look at the Big Hunt, ostensibly the place has a safari theme, but it isn't over the top & the basement takes an entirely different direction. The belian beer theme is quite popular 7 you can find a few places in Adams Morgan that have taken that route. This bar actually sounds quite appealing to me.

Yeah, you're probably right. I'm just glad that all of a sudden there will be a bunch of cool places in walking distance.
I was hanging out at 8th St SE yesterday (because of R&B's limited hours :-( and asking myself how H St was similar. The one difference is that the metro is much closer to the restaurants there on 8th St.

Yes, the metro is a huge issue. That's exactly why people need to view H Street as a destination worth making the trip for. You'll be happy to hear that R&B is planning to improve the limited hours problem. I understand that very soon they will have new hours as follows:
Mon-Fri: 6am-7pm
Sat & Sun: 9am-5pm
I think it might begin next Tuesday, but we'll have to wait & see. I'll be sure to post a notice once I know for sure.
