Opening Soon

P1010121
The site of the Argonaut in the 1400 block of H Street. I don't know the exact date, but I have heard that the window coverings are down suggesting that the renovation is largely over (this photo is from early last week). The Argonaught is the first in a series of restaurants & taverns coming to H Street courtesy of Joe Englert.

I stopped in last weekend hoping that all the old chairs and tables that were outside on the sidewalk were for sale, and a guy inside told me that they would be opening in two weeks. I didn't get to take anything home.

Well, you can always indulge your urges to buy beaten up furniture at the American Rescue Worker Thrift store (H), The Salvation Army (H), or Nifty Thrift (Florida). If those don't do it it there is Rough & Ready, or the junk shops on North Capitol. I'm glad to hear that they are still on schedule.

That is the building at 15th & Maryland. The Argonaut is going to be a restaurant. It will have a basic menu of burger type fare. It is the first in a series of restaurant and taverns being opened on H Street by Joe Englert.

Joe needs to hire a colorist! This is uglier than the joint it replaces. Why does all of his places have to look like dives?

I agree, the color is awful. Can we appeal to Joe to chose a better color.

It certainly is green, isn't it. I wonder if that by the time H street gets revitalized, we'll be living in a crayola neighborhood.
