I don't think this is a an overall reduction in hours. R&B had long stayed closed on Mondays & had recently also been closed on Tuesdays (so these days have been added back into the schedule while Sunday has been removed). I think the new hours reflect a perceived demand for early morning coffee service, not a dip in business. While the cutting back in later hours may be bad news to those regularly on H Street after 3pm, I think most people will not feel a change aside from the loss of Sundays if only because a 7pm closing never gave people time to get to R&B after work. I also know that the owner is busy working on plans to fix up the backyard for outdoor seating.
I called and no one picked up on a Sunday afternoon. Weird. Maybe business was so brisk he couldn't get to the phone? I heard he closed for like a week mysteriously once.
Definitely closed on Sundays. R&B was closed briefly (a few months back) while Alphonso reconfigured the inside to accommodate food service. He had to change the bar set-up, get that sandwich case, and acquire lots of other kitchen items like the panini maker(this was also before he really had any staff to help out).
