Thus far both the H Street Arts and Humanities Festival and opening of the H Street Martini Lounge are scheduled for Saturday October 1st. The festival, which will be held from 12pm-6pm from between 12th & the Starburst intersection (where H meets Maryland & Florida), will be the first H Street has seen in a while. A number of H Street businesses have supplied funds and support for the effort, but there isn't much infomation yet on exactly what the festival will feature. Music and food are a safe bet. You can also expect to have booths showcasing local groups and businesses. Though I wish we were hearing more about the festival, I still expect that it will draw a number of curious neighbors. Hopefully it will give everyone a chance to check out some of the recent changes on H Street.

I think it's really unfortunate that this is on the same date and time as the Barracks Row festival (which is 10/1/05 12-6 pm). Maybe they expected that people would want to festival-hop from one to the other? Or maybe there wasn't any sort of communication re: the dates but I imagine more people would show up on H Street that day if it wasn't on the same day as the more established 8th street festival.
Are cool, hip, swanky new bars typically painted the color of a squash? The longer I looked at the picture, the more it just seemed like a strange color choice. Perhaps it's more yellow in real-life, and the picture is giving it the Fall vegetable tones. I'm still looking forward to checking it out though, don't get me wrong.
Compared to the in-your-face no-subtlety-allowed colors of the other new bars, I'll take this one. Looks really nice & I can't wait to go & check it out!
This is the first time I've heard about the festival. Frozen Tropics is a community service!

What do you mean "is there even an H Street Main Street?" Check out their website at www.hstreetdc.com to keep updated on everything that's going on! Oh wait, hasn't it been about a year since anything was added to that website. Is there another website that replaced that one?
That site is absolutely useless. If it weren't for this site I wouldn't know what is going on in the neighborhood.
hstreetdc.com was never the official website of HSMS. It was originally created by Kevin Palmer (and me a bit) in 2000 or 2001 to support community building. Kevin is burned out on neighborhood issues, plus he had some lifestyle changes, so among other things he's cut back on, one is maintaining that website.
OK, then what is the official HSMS website? www.hstreetdc.com should be taken down since it's completely outdated. The website gives me the same feeling that many blocks of H street give me...I guess we could call this site 'web blight'. Maybe Joe Englert can buy it and update it...

Celebrate the H Street Arts and Humanities Festival, an event that is staged by the merchants (HSMPA), the H Street Main Street, and the community to provide a positive celebration of the people and businesses along the H Street corridor. H Street will be closed to traffic from 12th Street to 14th Street to create a street fair atmosphere.
