The ANC has sent a letter requesting that the city enforce the law against a particular group of street preachers who frequently set-up on the southeast corner of 8th & H Streets. The preachers use an amplifier without a permit. Although they have been cited multiple times for this same offense, they continue to violate this law on a regular basis. We'll see what happens. But if these guys get the boot, where will I go to hear about the evils of the white devil?

You can always ride the 96 bus - it is a frequent topic of discussion. ;)
Chris
It isn't the same without the pictures of spaceships.
Thanks for the tip Chris. Note to self....stay away from bus 96.

The 96 bus is way better than the 90. And I haven't heard a "white devil" speech on the 96. Maybe they start up after Union Station.
I like the non--sensical preaching. It is better than some of the other activities going on there.
Also, I have never had a problem on the 90 bus.
Not being familiar with these preachers at all, I have to confess that the term "white devil" actually sounds kind of cool. It certainly sounds a bit more impressive than "middle-aged white dude."

There is also the term, "blue eyed devil" which leaves out a lot of people
It sounds funny but if you live on the 700 block of 8th street it really has been awful for the last couple of years. Forget about the content for a moment, try sitting around on a saturday and hearing this with the windows closed and louder than your tv.
I'm sure it's no fun at all. I've definitely been making light of the situation, but there is no way these guys should be allowed to operate as they do. They are standing on the corner & amplifying what is basically hate speech (did you hear their rant on Abu Gharib?).
I am sure it is not fun and should not be taken lightly, however you can not take it personally. They are obviously in a different realty than most people.
For the residents living on 8th Street NE, this issue is purely about continued violations of the D.C. noise ordinance. It is NOT about speech content or one's right to assemble.
For nearly two years, all we've asked is that the fellows stop using the amplifier. They have been less than cooperative, to say the least.

Got it. In my previous comment I meant the use of the amplifier sans permit when I said "operate as they do." My parents are plagued by neighbors with an extremely loud outdoor intercom system. It ruins dinners on the deck. I can only imagine the annoyance of something more constant (and easily audible from inside the house).
