Another Rainy Saturday?

IMG_0224
I haven't checked the weather report, but if it does rain, don't let it keep you away from the farmers market on H Street. I was there last weekend & the turnout seemed surprising good for a rainy day (it was doing more than just sprinkling). Barring flat out emergencies (like a flooded farm) the farmers market will be there. So the next time your soccer game, or gardening plans get rained out, you can always check out the market instead.

I'm so glad to see someone else talking up the market. They have great stuff (whole milk yogurt is out of this world). Spread the word!

I heard yesterday that the market will close at the end of the month. Too bad.

Actually, they haven't quite decided yet. If traffic at the market picks up, they will stay until the 19th of November. More and more neighborhoods are seeking farmers markets and that means farmers can pick and choose which markets to attend. If H Street is less lucretive than other markets, we will lose the individual farmers, and potentially the market as a whole.

I went to the H st famers market on Saturday. Yes, it is indeed in danger of ending early and even worse not returning at all next year. The reason given was lack of community support. Farmers are not able to make enough money at this market. Losing this markey would be a real shame for H st. Please grab your neighbors and make it down to the market the next couple of Saturdays.

I think that it is a bit strange that the management of this market always blames lack of community support, rather than poor management for it's lack of customers. for example, I have seen little promotion of the market anywhere.

I asked the person in charge "Denay?". She said she advertised everywhere she could think of, flyers, realtors, churches, on-line goups. Still people do not come. Interestingly though the Bread guy from Baltimore sold out of bread by 10:00am.
