Here's a shot of the recently painted rolldown at the Pug (sorry the shot is crooked, but you can get the idea). This place is in the looks building in the 1200 block of H Street. The Pug is meant to be a boxing themed tavern. A partner of Joe Englert's is opening this one (I believe sometime in the next few months).

yes! more art for the city! also taggers tend not to hit wall or pulldowns with art.
I was thinking the same thing. Its a goofy picture that I don't actually like much but far preferable to the alternative.
I think the current endorsement is for new rolldown to be partially translucent. Painting the old ones couldn't hurt.
How about no rolldowns??? Nothing says "blight" like a street full of storefronts with those ugly metal garage doors. However, I do believe their necessity depends on the business. If you have plasma screen TVs and other high tech, expensive equipment you probably have a better argument for using rolldowns than if you are safeguarding ohhh, I don't know, day-old jerk chicken for example.
