Activity at Montello & Florida

The property on the northeast corner of Montello & Florida, which recently boasted a "for sale" sign, had its windows removed. It appears that this site is going to join the growing number of renovated commercial spaces in the area. The real question is whether a particular business is already slated to fill the space, or if this is a general renovation without a given tenant in mind. Anyone hear anything?

A little off topic, I've always thought that triangular building w/ lots of 'lawn' area across the street from there would be an awesome site for a cafe. I think it's a plumbing supply store?

The issue I see with that is that you are going to get major traffic noise off Florida. I've heard people talk about how Jimmy's Tire would be great for some kind of brewhouse type place. I agree, but I think you would need to put the seating in the back, or on the roof (both would cut down on noise). We'll have to see what the plans for the new condos look like. The thing about this Florida & Montello space is that I can't imagine what anyone would but in there right now except another corner store exactly like the ones we already have. I don't think I've mentioned it before, but one of my otherr wishlist businesses for H Street (I think that is more likely), and the rest of the area, is a newstand. as it is now, I think you have to walk to Union Station for the New York Times.

Up the street a little...do you know what's happening with building at the corner of Montello and Queen? Been curious about it for a while and in the last couple weeks the windows have been boarded up and a sign about "DC-Fix-It" has been put up. Any knowledge on what's going on there?

Did it used to be a liquor store? Is there a daycare down the street? If so, I think I know what you are talking about. The building is a project that ANC Commissioner Whilelmina Lawson is associated with. They are turning the former liquor store into some kind of youth activity center. This might not be the building to which you refer because I am not sure of the cross street, but I suspect that this is the right one.
