They've been "renovating" for years. I've never seen any evidence of work going on there.

I was just talking to Cornell Brown (DCPS director of facilities) about this school at one of the Master Ed Plan sessions. He seemed to indicate that they are pretty far along at least in picking an architect and starting the renovation. I asked him if it would be considered closed for the MEP effort and the subsequent Master Facilities Plan and he said definitely not, it will re-open (don't know when) as a full capacity DCPS school. The current students have been sent around to some different schools, but he expects to have them all back. So that's a bit of an update.

Exactly how long has this school been closed?

From what I hear, it has been closed a few years...someone told me that the school had been closed for renovation, but then funding fell through, and they have never brought the kids back.

Every morning, the buses are lined up to take the kids to Capitol Hill elementary schools. So much for every neighborhood having a walkable elementary school.

If you are strictly talking about walkability, the is always Webb Elementary (Mt. Olivet). Webb is walkable from anywhere in Trinidad. We're also not that far from Wilson J. O. Elementary (660 K Street NE). I'm not making any comparison of the test scores, or academics at these schools, just saying they are all walkable.
