Commissioner Joseph Fengler:
I am writing to inform you that I will be resigning my responsibilities as Advisory Neighborhood Commissioner, due to increased family obligations effective December 1, 2005.
I realize that selecting and introducing a new ANC may be difficult, and I will do whatever I can to make this transition a smooth one. I have streamlined the list of active SMD 6A01 residents that attend the monthly meetings. I can provide that list when the new commissioner takes office.
I am pleased to have had the opportunity to work with ANC 6A. I wish you continued success and growth.
Sincerely
Robyn Holden

Board of Elections
Mayor Williams
Councilmember Ambrose
Chair ANC 6A

Commissioner Holden has, as is true of some other neighborhood commissioners, occasionally been the subject of local controversy. Commissioner Holden particularly sparked controversy recently when she publicized her local single member district meeting with a flyer that included the question "Do you want 8 bars to open at the same time on H Street?"
Robyn Holden, who also hosts a radio show on WPFW and previously broadccasted on WHUR, was popular with some residents, but unpopular with others. The "8 bars" remark above refers to the taverns & restaurants that Joe Englert & his business associates wish to open on H Street. The first of these places, The Argonaut, opened a few months back. The next place in line appears to be The Pug. Commissioner Holden held regular meeting on a variety of topics, Englert's establishments were simply (perhaps) the highest profile of these topics.

Raphael Velento Marshall was not the incumbent candidate. The incumbent, Commissioner Wanda Stevens-Harris did not run for re-elections. Commissioner Holden defeated Marshall by a vote of 482 to 233.
A little off topic, but the Pug is looking pretty good. Also, saw guys working on that building on the corner of Montello & Fla. There's a new addition built on the back upstairs. Couldn't help thinking it looks like a deck for a restaurant. Any news on that place?
Sorry about Raphael Marshall thing. I couldn't fix it last night due to technical difficulties with Blogger. It had slipped my mind who the old Commissioner was & the Blade article that I had linked to (in the original post) referred to Marshall as the incumbent. Sorry for the confusion. My apologies to Mr. Marshall.
I think they may be hoping to open the Pug pretty soon (but I haven't heard any date range recently). They are working on the building at Montello & Florida. I'm not sure what they are doing, but I would be pretty shocked if anyone were putting in a sit-down restaurant there. Right now they have a large amonut of pvc pipinginside & are working on replacing pipes in the back. It looks like they are also building out a bit upstairs to increase the square-footage. The building has to be zoned for commercial use, but since many people live above area businesses, I'm going to assume that this would also be acceptable in this case. I think that might explain putting in a deck (you are correct that there is a door upstairs). One other reason for the door could be some kind of fire code thing. Maybe we'll hear more concrete plans later, but I would bet that this is an investor fixing up the property with an eye to future opportunities (especially with the condo development across the street & all the hype about nearby H Street), but no specific plans yet.
Robyn's district has lost a extremely articulate and thoughtful leader. This is a big loss for the less connected constituants this area.
