Family Liquor Temporarily Shut Down?
I heard from a source in the 8th & H Street area that Family Liquor has had its license suspended by DCRA for selling liquor to a minor. The store apparently shuttered its doors some time last week & there is no word yet on when it might re-open. Family Liquor (8th & H) has recently annoyed (and sometimes enraged) neighbors by refusing to clean up its act. Family Liquor, unlike some stores that have entered into voluntary agreements wit the ANC that bar them from selling singles, does sell singles & is often blamed for not only a significant portion of the public drunkeness on H Street, but also for much of the public urination that occurs on, or around H Street.

Cheapest prices in town.
The owners are nice. I am not sure if they can be blamed for the lack of character from some of their clientell.
If they shut down the traffic just moves down the road a bit.
That place is packed 24/7
Yeah, it is always hard to know exactly who to blame. But it is certainly true that many people point the finger directly at Family Liquor.
I go there on occasion for the prices and convenience. However sometimes I don't feel like being harassed for a dollar or one of my beers and go out of my way elsewhere.
This relates to the other post in that the H Street plan can't come together until people feel comfortable walking from west to east or east to west.
Would it be possible for the H Street business coalitions to hire a security person to drive up and down H Street? I imagine it would be a good investment for a lot of the new places opening up.
I see a lot of police cars during the day but not as many at night.
There was a time when the same could be said of U Street. H Street will be a nice place to go at night once the community comes together and more openly voices what kind of businesses it wants in the neighborhood.
