January Hill Rag Available Online

The January Hill Rag is online & features four articles of particular interest (a few highlights listed below).

ANC 6A Report:
-A mention of the February election to replace Commissioner Robyn Holden who resigned recently.
-An announcement that DDOT will be holding January meetings re: the Starburst Plaza & H Street Streetscape changes.

ANC 6C Report:
-HSMS is trying to get funds from amenities package for Uptown Bakery site. Anwar Saleem produced a report explaining how the $20k received from the Abdo project was spent & asked for the $25k from the Bakery site. He said the funds would go to pay for the contract with a group that helps the homeless on H as part of the Clean & Safe program.
-Continued wrangling over Ronald Cohen's disaster of a development project at 2nd & K.

New Gym Opening on H Street:
-A short piece on the new Willpower Health & Fitness Studio (1005 H Street).

A Visit to Cluck U:
-Jim Myers of Hill East fame talks checks out Cluck U Chicken & considers ANC 6A's appeal of the business's C of O.

UPDATE************************
I hadn't yet read the Last Word (scroll down to the bottom of the page) section, but in addition to Richard's letter about the economics of baseball (and the othe other baseball letters), you might also want to look at the letter from the Capitol Hill Restoration Society.

Quote from the Hill Rag:

"The plans have changed slightly for the streetscape of the H Street Corridor. There will not be designs imprinted into the asphalt, but there will be a light rail."

They are talking about light rail on H Street like it is a done deal. Have I missed something?

the stuff I have heard/seen lately does make it sound like there are plans to lay the rail, but I know ahwt you mean. Light rail sounds like a big commitment (a very worthwhile one in my opinion), and it almost sounds too good to be true that we will see this anytime soon. But I don't know that much about the actual rail part of the plans for H Street. Maybe somebody else knows more & can help us out?

The commitment to lighter rail, not necessarily "light rail," is strong, and H St. has always been one of the priority corridors. See DC Transit Future

I wasn't impressed by the Myers piece. But the fifth thing worth reading in the Hill Rag was my "Last Word" letter reworking of a blog entry...

25,000 to employ homeless people? what, one homeless person? that's like throwing the money in a furnace. as disastrous as h street looks, if they can't think of anything better to do with 25 grand than give it to a church, HSMS needs to be run out of town...
