Forgive me if this has already been covered somewhere else, but what types of activities will HSMS volunteers be doing? Is this standard street clean-up?
I think that HSMS has a new leader. They appear to be trying to rejuvenate/slightly reinvent (my perception) the organization with an increased emphasis on resident participation. This is a volunteer recruiting event. I don't know if they plan to do street cleaning in the future, but my impression is that this drive might be intended to get people to serve on committees & be involved in various events. Basically, I don't have much information on this one. Apparently they are also doing a new website, but it isn't up & running yet. I feel like HSMS has been pretty closed off from the community for the past couple of years. Increased transparency & openness to community imput would probably be a good thing.
We had a nice little turn out on Saturday (esp. considering the weather), it was great to see people so dedicated to H Street.
If you missed the volunteer signup meeting, you can email me at sdpieslak@hotmail.com, shalondahunter@yahoo.com, or hstreetdc@yahoo.com. Shalonda Hunter is the new Executive Director of H Street Main Street.
Inked was right, Saturday was to meet with and sign up volunteers for the 4 committees: -Design -Promotion -Economic Restructuring -Organization
If you would like to know specifics on each committee's goals for 2006, email me and i'll give you additional information. Also, if you have 1-2 hours each week, there are opportunities to help out with office management type tasks.
There are 2 events coming up: ● Merchant Coffee Hour Wednesday, February 22, 2006 at 9 a.m. R&B Coffee, 1359 H Street, NE ● H Street Main Street Mixer Wednesday March 15, 2006 at 7pm H Street Martini Lounge 1236 H Street, NE
Also, one of HSMS goals this year is to inform the community more. There has been a disconnect in the past and we're trying to fix that. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Does anyone know where we can sign up if we missed the meeting on Saturday?
They'll have a new website up soon, so they will probably have a way to sign up there.
They are also hosting a mixer on Wednesday Feb 15th at 7pm at the H Street Martini Lounge.
