VOH: Hall Trial Goes to Jury
The Voice of the Hill has another article on the progress in the trial of indicted former ANC 6C Commissioner Robert Hall. Hall is accused of defrauding unwary investors of hundreds of thousands of dollars in a ponzi scheme that he masterminded. He fired three defense lawyers and ultimately chose to represent himself. Yesterday the two sides delivered their closings & Halls fate now rests with the jury. As part of his defense, Hall introduced 198 bounced checks to investors claiming that these checks show that he intended to pay the investors (some of whom he reportedly promised annual rates of return as high as 153%).

Hall convicted on multiple counts:
United States Attorney Kenneth L. Wainstein, and Guy J. Cottrell, Inspector in Charge of the United States Postal Inspection Service, announced today that Robert L. Hall, Jr., 32, of Washington, D.C., was found guilty late Friday by a federal jury on 10 counts of wire fraud, 6 counts of mail fraud, securities fraud, and first degree fraud in connection with his operation of a Ponzi scheme which defrauded dozens of innocent investors of over $747,000 over the course of almost three years. When Hall is sentenced on June 2, 2006, by United States District Judge Henry H. Kennedy, Jr., he faces up to 350 years in prison and a $1,000,000 fine. Judge Kennedy ordered Hall held without bond pending sentencing.
