The Post has this story on some emotional responses following the announcement of a new president for the University.
In other Gallaudet related news, the Argonaut (1433 H Street) may have to consider discontinuing the otherwise successful Gallaudet night (every Wednesday) over concerns about keeping underage students out of the event.

Anybody know anything more specific about the cause for concern over the incoming president? Reading the article, I can't help but think that such massive protest couldn't come just from the fact that she's 'cold and aloof,' but there isn't much other reason given, other than the fact that she can speak, which hardly seems like a disqualifying characteristic. Any Gaullaudet students reading this?

If she can hear, that would probably generate significant opposition by itself. Getting their first deaf president at Gallaudet back in '88 involved a lot of protest and was a very big deal (which only makes sense - it is a school for the deaf and hearing impaired after all).
Speaking of that, "uproar" seems like the wrong word to describe a protest that was conducted using sign language.
There is a new article about this in the Post today. The new president, Jane K. Fernandes, is deaf. The article lists a number of concerns, but it sounds like the protestors have many different issues.
