It isn't really anywhere near here, but reading this Voice of the Hill story about a
brothel bust over by Barracks Row serves as a nice reminder that the H Streetish & New Hill East parts of Capitol Hill don't have any monopoly on, um, interesting stories.

Nice to know that Focus Mission worked so hard to close down a brothel. Too back we can't get this kind of attention at the drug house on 5th and I, NE. I guess that's just about 12 blocks too far north for a city council member to get involved.
That's right across from the Marine barracks.
You know what they say about business: Location. Location. Location.
Does Councilman Vincent Orange Jr. really exist? I mean, I've heard rumors that we have a councilman in Ward 5 but maybe it just a myth...
we should just legalize prostitution, and regulate the hell out of it. It has always existed and always will. That is a lot in potential taxes going to waste.
As a person that used to work right next to the place you would not believe the amount of people that went in and out of that place. When we spoke to the local police about it, they said they new about it, but in a raid made a few years ago nothing came out of it. They refered it being tied into someone with power -asian mafia- also noting that they thought a lot of the girls where very young and shipped over. Only people with asian decent were ever scene going in and out.

Of course he does, those annoying signs all over the City didn't just come out of nowhere.
Wait, you mean he actually represents a ward? Ward 5 you say? My ward? No way. We have no representation, we subsist on the scaps of representation from other more lucky and represented wards.
I can see where a brothel in DC wouldn't attract much police attention, but one that serves only Asian clientele? You'd think they could at least get somebody fired up about the discrimination! :)
Lol! Anon 5:30. I was thinking the same thing. I'm sure the Feds could cook up some sort of civil rights case to shut that place down. Maybe they can send in a white or black undercover agent posing as a potential client and when he gets turned away for not being Asian, the feds swoop in charge the owner with discrimination

anyone have any suggestions on how to go about busting up a suspected prostitution ring on 11th street - in a private residence?
Before you call the police. start a written log of some of the activity, ie: how many people go in and out in the course of an hour, take down license plate numbers, note number of VA and MD plates, and any photos will also help. Then walk all this information down to the nearest precinct. Ask to file a nuisance complaint and attach your records to it. In short you're going to have to do a small bit of investigative work on your own, MPD ain't going to do it themselves. If you present them with substantive evidence that nuisance activity is taking place, you stand a much better chance of police response. If you're a bit braver you can stand outside the establishment and harass the johns, worked for a friend of mine in adams morgan. He stood on the sidewalk and photographed every person that went into the house. the owners of the brothel called the police on HIM!! Of course he showed MPD his photography collection and once the police sorted everything out the brothel was shuttered about a week later and the property was eventually sold to a responsible homeowner.

Shelley's advice is v. good but be sure to keep copies of everything you turn over to the police. Also, send copies to your ANC SMD, and to your councilmember.
The squeaky wheel gets the oil -- or in this case -- police action
