A look at what's going on in Trinidad, on H Street, and in the larger area north of Capitol Hill.

Palace of Wonders Burglarized
1210 H Street, Palace of Wonders (AKA Showbar), was hit early this morning. Someone smashed in the glass in the front door to gain entry. No word yet on the extent of the damage/loss.
I have to laugh though. Can you imagine the reaction they had as thiefs go upstairs and see a unicorn looking at them, or any of that other stuff. Hopefully they freaked and out and ran out the door screaming.
Seriously, this crime is relatively discouraging in the face of a community trying to improve itself. I just hope Joe E. is willing to keep the faith. His places are great additions to H Street...no problems with noise, loitering, etc...and I've been watching (as I can see the store fronts from my bathroom window). Continue the great work Joe!
hopefully the damage is minor and covered by insurance. i'd like to offer a word of encouragement to joe. it's not easy being a pioneer, but in the long run, you'll be remembered as a big part of bringing the east side of h street back (along with the h street playhouse, atlas arts center and smaller businesses like r&b coffee). thank you!!
Yes, Joe, please do not get discouraged! I'm really sorry to hear that this happened to you again. You and your new establishments are wonderful for H Street, and you are doing great things. It's up to all of us neighbors to keep making our way to H Street to show folks that we just won't tolerate this anymore.
They used to have bars on the front doors while they were doing all that construction. I was baffled as to why they took them off.
We have to remember that even though all this stuff is happening on H st it is still a very dangerous place if your careless about you safety and property.
Maybe instead of cats as tenants to the bar they should get a couple of pitt bulls. Just a suggestion.
The Argonaut had bars, but they didn't seem to keep the thieves out. Don't forget that Imagine U Unique was hit once or twice even though they had a rolldown (I think the came through the roof). I think the sticker on the window at Palace of Wonders said they had ADT. No word on damages. They have a show scheduled for tonight (a female variety show that includes belly dancers $8 cover) & I beleive it is still on.
Have you noticed that there is more sympathy on this blog for a bar getting broken into, than a for a Gullian's girlfriend getting robbed on H, in broad daylight? LOL
Well I have to do my part to dispel pit bull myths. Anon, happy, adjusted pit bulls are actually very bad property guard dogs. They will guard people in their family, but probably not a junkyard or other property (like a bar). They're more likely to lick someone to death than bite an intruder. Traditional, expected aggression towards other dogs and aggression towards humans are very different things, and the majority of pit bulls are not aggressive towards humans.
That's not to say that abused, chained, or unloved pit bulls would not attack a human; clearly such a thing has happened. But we wouldn't want to promote that sort of dog ownership in our neighborhood, right?

Don't these places have security systems?
