Post: BIDs Spring Up Around Town

Here's a Post article on the popularity of Business Improvement Districts in DC. A second piece on the new BID in Adams Morgan is particularly useful when considering how a BID might work on H Street. As the piece points out, Adams Morgan is primarily composed of small businesses housed in 2-3 story buildings, as opposed to the highrises that dominate downtown (so each business much contribute a larger share).

We have a "BID" for H from 1200-1500. We pitch in anywhere from $80-100 a week for street cleaning, advertisting, cabs and in the future, security, christmas lights, etc. As previously stated, we would love any interested businesses to please join

Joe Englert:

The $80-100 is PER business

The 1200-1500 block pseudo-BID makes a noticable difference. My wife and I thought people just stopped littering as much, until I saw a guy come out of the Pug and sweep all the way down the block several mornings. Kudos to Joe & his colleagues for taking ownership of these blocks.

At our last ANC meeting, the chair of H Street Main Street (HSMS), Anwar Saleem, stated that HSMS is pursuing establishing a new bid with the business leaders on H Street.
