Testimony from Florida Market Hearing
Here is a link to testimony given by Richard Layman at Friday's hearing regarding proposed legislation for the New Towns development at the Florida Market. Definitely worth a read.

A fundamental, though often held misconception perpetuated here by Mr. Layman, is that "gentrification" displaces poorer residents. As a far-reaching general rule, this is not true. Just something to keep in mind.
Frequently Richard has written about that very topic. He doesn't much care for the word gentrification, or its connotaions. I think gentrification is a very complex issue to which many people have an overly simplistic knee jerk reaction in one direction, or the other. In the case of the market plan however, I suspect that it would displace many of the merchants.
