Sun & Moon Building For Sale

The Sun & Moon on a foggy morning
The Sun & Moon building, located at 1387 H Street, is on the market. List price? $899,900. The ad says the building was constructed in 1943, but I'm pretty sure it dates from earlier than that.

wow. isn't that right across the street from the Ohio Restaurant that is also for sale?

it seems like a great opportunity for someone to come in and 'kick it up a notch' on h street.

I think you will see a lot for sale on H Street NE in the coming year. The assessment office is starting to realize that H Street property is not worthless. This property for example was assessed at $167,750 in 2006 and for 2007 it is $445,350. Still no where near the actual value in my opinion, (and that of their real estate agent) but getting closer.

This will really help with some of the vacant properties which DC taxes at 5% of the assessed value.

I'm hoping that all of the empty buildings on H can be revitalized and will hold stores and offices.

i hope they're assessed at a higher rate so these deadbeat owners have to pay so much in taxes for them that either the city gets the properties (and makes them available to investors through a tax sale) or the deadbeat owners sell the buildings to someone who can use them...

I think it's be a while before we get rid of all the empty places. For now, I'll be more than happy with a a good number of cool places to hang out. I do hope someone reopens the Ohio. I think the place had real potential. While I do realize that the restaurant/bar was more a business investment than a labor of love for Betty (it wasn't something she hid) she did remarkable things for the place.
