Update on Unopened Englert Sites

According to a comment that appears to have been left by Joe Englert:

P1010112
The Beehive, which was originally going to be a gourmet pizza place, then was slated to become a tex-mex burrito spot, is now going to serve sushi and other Asian food. The new restaurant (1224 H Street) will be called Sticky Rice.

The Pug, a boxing themed bar located at 1234 H Street, will open shortly (hopefully by February 1st).

IMG_2739
Dr. Granville Moore's (1238 H Street), which will serve Belgian beer and food, is expected to open sometime in late spring/early summer.

The comment also said they were trying to lure a Two Amys/Pizza Paradiso type place to H Street.

Yes! I've been dying for an asian style restaurant in our area! Of course, there is the one on Mass. by Union Station, but it closes early, and doesn't serve beer.

Hopefully, they'll get the mix of hours/servings right, and satisfy they late nighters that are beginning to discover the new attractions on H Street.

The actual name of the place is going to be Sticky Rice...not fingers.

I've spotted several Asian restaurants on H St. Sticky Rice (or Fingers?) will not be the first, though it may be the first sit-down restaurant and perhaps the first without bullet-proof glass at the counter.

Yes, sorry. Sticky Rice is a much better name. Too m,uch Ab Fab over the holidays.

Yeah there are other asian 'places' on H Street. I meant that I was psyched to have the ever-so-rare sit down, no bullet proof window style joint in our little neck of the woods.

To me, that's what a restaurant is.

Not the other places on H, which I *might* qualify as carry and run. :o)

All great news. By summer with the Great Streets construction underway and several more new places open H St should be drawing a lot of attention.

a good pizza place would be very welcome by me. i just moved to the neighborhood a year ago and have been incredibly dissapointed by the lack of quality pizza options

Armand's is good. Gourmet Pizza is kind of anoying. If ever there was a 'common-man' food, it's pizza.

I think all these places sound pretty good. I make a lot of pizza at home and one of my favorite things about it is the fact that it can be so many things. You can dress it up, you can dress it down. You can put almost anything on it, and vary your doughs. Two Amy's makes, in my opinion, the best pizza in town. I'd love to have some place like that just down the street. And their pizza is pretty(authentic), not just some smaltzy overdone fancy pizza.

This is all very exciting - I hope it happens. There was recently a Weichert For Sale sign in the 1100 Block of H Street (Northside near Birdland), but now its gone. Does anyone know anything about that? Thanks. BG

I am a big fan of goat cheese pizza.

In other news......there is new signage in front of "Total U" fitness place (a.k.a the Tao Bo place at 517 Hst). Maybe Elise can get a pic next time she is down that way.

Grab the premade pizza crust, cheese, and deli toppings at Litteri's @ 57 Morse St NE and whip it up at home at 450 for 7-9 minutes. It's not 2 Amys but it will give most places around DC a good run.

Yeah, Two Amys rocks...everyone says it's authentic Italian pizza. And the wine bar... If you want a decent imitation of NY style pizza, that Citi Pizza on H near 6th is fine. Stop in and get their coupons before ordering. Coming from NJ, I agree w/ Anonymous 3:24...Pizza snobs are missing out on one of the great joys of life...going into a place called 'Tony's' or 'Sal's' and just grabbing a slice. :-)

Most of the pizza offerings in the neighborhood are crap. Armands is marginal at best. New York Pizza has been decent the few times I ordered from them but nothing fantastic and I found Als to be inedible, I'm not hip to citi pizza. Always looked kind of grimy from the outside but ill make a point of stopping by this weekend and trying it out. It doesn't have to be a fancy place like paradiso or matchbox but something with real ingredients and Italian flavor in the hood would be nice. the litteri's idea is a good one for those with culinary skills, but considering I haven't turned on my oven in months im probably not a candidate for the make-your-own pizza brigade.

you have in this country a pizza store i like very much. it is ehhh how you say hut of pizza. very naiiice!

If you're looking for good pizza you may want to try A.V. Restaurante at 6th and New York, NW. Their white pizza with fontina is great. The red pizza with olives and pepperoni rocks. The rest of the menu is only okay, but the pizza is really great New York style.

My favorite that I've had in and around D.C. is Angelico's, with stores near Tenley Circle and in Del Ray. Their sandwiches are awfully good too. If 2 Amys etc. decline, it wouldn't be a bad turn if Angelico's came here.
