ANC 6A is planning to protest the liquor license for Langston Bar and Grille located at 1831 Benning Road. The Grille's owner originally filed for a CT (tavern) license, but has since downgraded it to a CR (restaurant) license. The license downgrade means the owner will be required to sell more food.

Does anyone know why they are planning on protesting the license?
The protest has to do with peace and quite concerns relating to late hours (the application requests permission for 3am closing Fridays and Saturdays). It appears the Commission will drop the protest is it can successfully enter into a voluntary agreement with the Grille's owner.
But isn't that when Engler's bars close?
My understanding (based on previous emails sent out by the ANC ABL people) is that in the past there have been issues with business owners who promise to sign VAs later failing to sign VAs where the businesses were not protested (Englert's places all signed VAs). It sounds like the owner can get out of the protest by signing the VA. I think the ANC just doesn't want to count its chickens before they are hatched.
