Teen May Not Have Shot Self
Police are now saying that the 17 year old, Kevin Thomas, did not shoot at the police (as police had intially reported) but did point a gun at officers. It also appears he was hit multiple times by police gun fire, and that he may not have fired the fatal gun shot wound to the head. It also now appears that the youth accidentally shot his aunt, and that it was not the result of a domestic disturbance (as previously reported in the Post). Mr. Thomas' family has suggested that police shot the youth while he was trying to surrender. Read the Post article for the full story.

Guns don't kill people. People kill people... but still, it's probably a good idea not to have one around. Plus in DC it's illegal anyway.
years of reading police corruption stories makes me doubt any of that "the suspect shot himself" stuff anyway. in mississippi, an uncanny number of jailed suspects hung themselves in the 90s, including people arrested for misdemeanors. *shaking my head*
anywho, sad to hear the kid seemingly killed his aunt by accident...and then seemingly got killed by the police. double the tragedy.
The aunt is not dead. She was shot twice, but suffered only injuries.
Actually guns aren't illegal in the District, they are just very tightly controlled. Admittedly, handguns are for all intents and purposes illegal, as for one to be legal, it needs to have already been registered way back in 1976. (clearly not the case here) But long guns (of very restricted type) are legal to own if one is willing to jump through the regulatory hoops and dance like a monkey for the petty tyrants in the Gun Registration Unit at 300 Indiana.
In any event, episodes like this sadly prove that gun control only affects the rights of the law-abiding; while criminals ignore the law, as criminals are wont to do.
