Update on Situation Last Night

I'm not sure why this event isn't bigger news, but I can't find it on the news websites & the Post has it buried over in the District Briefing section. Essentially the situation began when police gave chase to a red Jeep containing four robbery suspects. This was at around 9:30. Three of the suspects were arrested at that point (they were teens). The fourth suspect jumped into another car and sped off. At some point a bicyclist was hit by one of the cars (last night ABC News 7 reported that this occurred at 6th & Florida, but I don't know if that is accurate). The bicyclist was treated for minor injuries. The driver shot at police while driving, but no officers were hit. He drove into Capitol Hill, crashed the car and ran into a rowhouse on Mass Ave (8th & Mass). A man in the house hit the suspect with a frying pan and then fled outside with his wife and dog. The suspect surrendered to police around midnight. Why isn't this bigger news?

Ask & ye shall receive. Here are the stories I couldn't find earlier:
Read the story & watch the video from WUSA9, NBC News 4, Fox News 5,or ABC 7 News (this one is from last night, and appears in the post below). Sorry it wasn't updated before, but the network problems here were followed by Blogger server issues. DCist has a story on all of this. What a day!

Maybe catching a robbery suspect last night at 8th & Mass is not as big news as what happened later at 9th & H Street (from the NBC 4 website):

Several robbery suspects are in custody this morning after a busy Wednesday night in the District.

It ended with several car accidents, including a woman who was hit while riding her bike.

One suspect was hit with a frying pan. He was hiding in the basement of a home when the homeowner heard him, and struck him with the pan. The suspect is now in custody.

We drove by the scene of the bicycle accident last night around 10:30-11 at 6th and Florida. The police had blocked off 6th St north of Florida for just a block.

I'm glad the bicyclist is OK. The bike looked mangled.

Thanks for covering this. I was wondering what happened last night and figured it had to be a big deal. At one point 11 police cars went west on F Street at an extremely high speed, lights and sirens. It was crazy.

Tip on finding crime stories in the Post: On the website index page, at the very top in tiny writing, there's a link to "Print Edition." Click on that, then "Metro." Look for "District Briefing," which contains late-breaking police blotter-type stories. This story was there this morning.

So from my window at 6th and F, I watched as the "shots fired" part happened. The black tahoe couldn't handle the corner from westbound on F to northbound on 6th, and demolished a parked saab. Momentarily stuck, he reversed over a traffic light (which snapped), shot twice at the police car behind him, and drove off up 6th toward H.

My condolences to the saab owner -- i'm sure you had an unhappy discovery this morning.

Thanks John,
I usually just search for District Briefings, and that can be hit or miss. Now I'll know where to find them.
