WP: Car Chase & Barricade

Here's the Post coverage of the kid (17 yrs old)that lead police on a high speed (described as 90 mph) chase, ran over a bicyclist, and barricaded himself in the basement of a Capitol Hill rowhouse yesterday. Luckily the homeowner was unharmed and managed to flee the home safely with his wife and dog after hitting the suspect with a copper frying pan (yet another reason to use cast iron skillets). The bicyclist suffered minor injuries. Pretty amaxing that no one was killed. You may recall a previous teeanger (I think the the one I'm referring was 19) fleeing the police (who had called off the chase out of concern for public safety) who sped down Florida Ave a couple of years ago. The 19 year old mowed down two children in front of my house while he was doing 80. Those two siblings (I think they were around 7 and 9) were killed in front of their father.

Thank God our politicians and government are fighting crime like this by initiating the smoking ban and vigilantly patrolling the restaurants to make sure no one is lighting up!

I think someone needs a cigarette...

Too bad the perp didn't run into Grover Norquist's house across the street. It would have been poetic justice for somebody who has said he wants to downsize government enough that he can drown it in the bathtub.

Inked, the story about the two kids killed on Florida Ave -- in a crosswalk, no less -- is on the Post website here.

Utterly heartbreaking followup several months later is here.

I thought norquist lived on Constitution, not Mass. Am I wrong on this?

You're right -- but note that the perp jumped out at Constitution & entered the rear yard of the Mass Ave. residence. The rear yard in question faces onto Constitution, no?

My thoughts exactly. And I can't believe the teen called his grandma from inside. Kind of makes me sad.

I'm glad someone else was struck by the kid's age and how he called his grandmother.

Its all fun and Grand Theft Auto until you realize what kind of real sh-- you're in.

Kudos to the guy who popped him w/ the frying pan.
The nuts flying down Florida ave were a main highlight when I filled out the Pedestrian Survey. It doesn't take long...everyone go fill it out and make sure the Northeast is represented. I heard on WAMU news this eve that pedestrian deaths were up in NE and SE. So we need to offset the high number of people who will fill it out from the NW.
