Kiss Me Kate At the Atlas

I managed to catch a Sunday performance of Kiss Me Kate at the Atlas (performed by the Washington Savoyards). I'd never seen Kiss Me Kate before, but I really enjoyed the show. There was a sizable crowd, and seeing it the Atlas made it all the more enjoyable (the size and quality of the theater continue to impress me). If you enjoy musical theater, you should definitely check out the production, which is part of this year's Shakespeare in Washington festival. Even if you're not all that knowledgeable about musical theater (like me), you are likely familiar with both the works of Cole Porter, and Shakespeare's Taming of the Shrew. This is a very lively performance (so children are unlikely to become bored) with some timely political issues mixed in with the fun. How many shows can boast the mid-20th century military, 16th century Italian wooing, a golddigging male suitor, and two gun toting gansters? The show really does offer a little bit of something for everyone (the song Too Darn Hot was especially fun).
Buy tickets here. One child under the age of 15 will be admitted when accompanied by a paying ticketholder.

I definitely second this.

I saw opening night, so a couple of things were a little rough, but overall, an excellent performance.
