The National Marathon is this Saturday. The course starts at RFK and runs through Capitol Hill and involves rolling street closures. Many streets on Capitol Hill are affected, this includes East Capitol, H St NE, parts of C and D Streets NE .
See their website for a map and exact street closureshttp://www.nationalmarathon.com/downloads/Street.Closures.pdf

The links don't work -- looks like some extra spaces stuck in the middle.
May I suggest this and this instead?
I plan on running the half marathon and I am sorta bummed the half marathon doesn't use H Street. Rumor has it the Mayor is running the full marathon (unconfirmed gossip?).
He ran in last weekend's St. Patrick's Day 8K, so I bet it's true. He seems pretty dedicated to it.
Links are fixed. Sorry, I should have checked them (and my spelling).
This marathon will be really good exposure for Hst. Thousands of people who have never ventured to our neighborhood will come through on Saturday. We should put our best foot forward. My concern is that at 8th and Hst NE, thousands of marathoners will be verbally attacked by the corner amplified preacher group.
Yikes! So for those of us who live on the NE side of the hill towards rfk and need to get over to the SE side are basically going to be trapped for most of the day
Anon - the race starts at 7 am, so this is not an all day event (unlike the Marine Corps Marathon which starts later - 8:30 am). The web site shows the estimated time of when the major streets will be reopened - http://www.nationalmarathon.com/downloads/Street.Closures.pdf
According to that page, the latest is 1:15 and that is in the area closest to the finish line (RFK). So you won't be "trapped" all day.
This is FANTASTIC for the neighborhood. I hope that the runners (and their fans) will really get to see H St and hopefully venture back again soon!!
Unfortunately, there is really not time to schedule a formal neighborhood cleanup--but maybe folks heading out to watch the race can do their part for H Street and pick up some trash on their way?
I'm planning to go to watch, and will be arriving a little early with a trashbag to make the corridor look its best.
This is a rare opportunity to expose 1,000s of people to H Street.

I plan on doing the same at the intersection near my house (10th and H), Alan. I’m heading down to E. Capitol to watch the start of the race, but I should be back around 7:30 am. If anyone’s interested in joining the fun, shoot me an email - familymahmud at yahoo dot com. I’ll be happy to supply the garbage bags :)
