NBC4 reports that woman leaving the Checkers on Maryland Avenue with her daughter around 5:45pm Wednesday was forced into an alley near 13th & G Street at knifepoint. One of the two assailants raped the woman, while the other restrained her daughter. The two men walked off after they had finished.
Just a quick reminder, because of the nature of the crime, please refrain from posting any potentially identifying information about the victim.

Is there any more information about this? I can't believe it happened in the middle of the afternoon.
Here's the original email from the 1st District list (as forwarded to the 6A listserv). Not sur what's up with the time issue (5:45pm given by NBC4 for the rape, and MPD saying the call came in at 9pm).

The time is confusing, but it DID happen in the middle of the day. The victim lives on my street and the police were there shortly after 6 pm (when I got home from work). I had emailed Cmdr Groomes and she confirmed the victim lived on my street. Also, when I was driving home that night, there was a police cruiser parked near the spot of the incident. Not sure why the email indicates 9 pm, when MPD was on my street around 6 pm.
Does the victim live on G St? I live on G and didn't see any police around on Wednesday. This is freaking me out.
I think we probably do not want to specify what street the victim lives on. We already know that the rape occured in an alley near 13th & G. Let's please be careful about disseminating any potentially identifying information.
This is a terrible thing, and my heart goes out to the victim and her daughter.
Let's hope they catch the losers that did this pronto.
unbelievable that something like this (such a crime takes quite a bit more time to commit than say a robbery or shooting) could happen in broad daylight, in a residential area, around the time many people are coming home from work. it's not like the 1300 block of g street is desolate and full of abandoned houses. still in shock.
i want to know where the psychos who did this live, not the victim (god bless her). i hope no one pries too much into who she is, because she needs her time and space to heal (god help her daughter as well). i hope these two lunatics who did this are caught soon...broad daylight, during rush hour? when everyone is getting off work, coming home, etc? sheer madness!
ladies, please please please watch yourselves out there because it only takes one or two psychos like this to put you in a terrible situation...neighbors, please be aware of what goes on around your house...keep your eyes open for people passing through, just be aware...we can all help each other...the fact that they did this in front of her child only makes it more sickening/disturbing and disheartening...
inked, please update us if they catch any suspects...
I find it odd that we don't have a description of the perps yet.
Oops, to clarify my last comment, I mean like a composite drawing.
There simply has GOT to be more police presence around the 14th Street/H Street/Maryland Avenue area. With the new foot traffic to the Argonaut and other locations, this becomes more imperative. In the area between Maryland and H where the bus stop is, and around some of the establishments on the other side of the street, there is a constant presence of guys just hanging out on the street, clearly up to no good. With the number of car break-ins in the area alone, one would think it would make sense to have a police presence there all the time. I look forward to Chief Lanier addressing these ongoing problems, including what is a rather passive police attitude compared to other cities, with some innovative policies that preempt crime instead of reacting to it. The fact that this occured in broad daylight shows just how brazen creeps and thugs are around here -- and how seriously they take the police.
The lack of coverage of this story is one of the most disturbing things about it. Aside from the Channel 4 report, I've seen nothing. This is a big deal. A brutal rape of a mom while her daughter is present in broad daylight and the guys just walk away? Where's the outrage?
Re: Lack of Coverage
I could not agree more. This is such an appalling act that happened right under our noses and NBC 4 is the ONLY news source to even mention it. Try doing a Google news search on "g street" and you will see that this is, in fact, the case.
Channel 4 was on the scene for 2 days filming the alley and Pat Collins gave an account that, I feel, spoke to the horror we should all feel about the details of this crime.
Where were the papers and the other stations? I echo the previous post in asking why there is no outrage being expressed over this?
Also, can we not get some more detailed description/sketches of the perpetrators?
