Off topic, but I thought I would share this, since I haven't heard anyone talking about it.

IBIZA NIGHTCLUB
NEW WASHINGTON, DC NIGHTCLUB WITH ROCK-STAR APPEAL

Washington, D.C. – Through the vision of entrepreneurs Jon Han, Eric Clay, Adam Needham, Allah Tung, and Aldo Vuong, Washington, D.C., will soon be embarking upon a taste of nightlife that will exceed any other nightclub experience ever imagined in the nation's capital --- Ibiza.

Ibiza, with over $6 million dollars of interior renovations, is a lavish 30,000 square foot oasis, located at 1222 First Street, NE (formerly the Sodibar Systems Warehouse). The stunning interior includes two mezzanine VIP terraces, waterfalls, a state of the art $1million dollar sound system (the only one of it's kind in the U.S.), seven bars, gourmet buffet, a 50,000 LED light wall on the dance floor, stainless steel and glass décor, and high definition cameras that will broadcast events live from Ibiza on the internet. Ibiza will open to the public in May 2007, five days a week, featuring a 6PM Happy Hour, and closing at 3AM.

Ibiza, home to some of the hottest promoters in the city, will also feature world-class DJs and celebrity hosts using Ibiza as their venue, not merely for revelry, but for endless, lavish, state of the art entertainment.

I don't think that this will be better than The Country Club.

It'll just attract a bunch of posers and rich people to our little neck of the gentrification woods.

I'd much rather the pseudo dives on H Street.

If it makes you feel any better, H20 is reopening as The Big Chill over in Ivy City. So, we've all got clubs coming. But yeah, they can be loud and a hassle.

I'm going to look back into Ibiza a bit. Although I wasn't Commissioner at that point, when they came in front of the local neighborhood association (and the ANC, at least initially), they were only asking planning a private dinner club, with an outdoor seating area on the roof. Although it was a "private dinner club", the public could either join, or still dine in a small area of the restaurant.

A dinner club/restaurant is a far cry from a "Nightclub with Rock-Star Appeal".

It's entirely possible that they changed the plan (or misled the community) and this got past the ANC, but I want to check. This is pretty close to existing and planned residential areas.

Best,

Actually, Ibiza is not near any existing residential areas. It's on the same block as Fur, which is actually closer to residential neigbhorhoods since it's just across North Capitol from Sursum Corda.

And why is H20 reopening in Ivy City? Did they lose their lease on the Waterfront?

I had heard the move was related to redevelopment activity on the waterfront. The Big Chill is basically going to be next door to Love (formerly Dream).

Chris, you're right that Ibiza is at the other end of the block from Fur.

However, there are already problems with the number of people going to Fur who park in the neighborhood East of tht tracks and are loud, etc. when coming back to their cars. This will only get worse for this existing residential neighborhood with Ibiza.

Also, there are projects that are both being proposed and already approved that would put new residential as close as directly across the street from Ibiza.

Best,

Alan,

Re: Ibiza Nightclub

Although I wasn't at the neighborhood meeting you're talking about where they said they were only going to be a private dinner club. Given the name Ibiza ( as in the party capital of Europe) I hardly doubt that would be the intent.

re: Ibiza Nightclub

Agreed. Not to mention, does anyone really need a million dollar sound system or 50,000 LEDs on the dance floor to enjoy fine dining?! Must be a very different kind of supper club.

you guys should be happy that a multi-million dollar club is locating nearby. this isn't some half assed club, it's the premier destination of clubs in dc.

you'll see more limos than you will drunken 20 somethings. they won't have the connections or the $$ to get near the place.

relax. it's going to bring bigger and better businesses to the area.

what do you want there? a dogpound? another condo?

it's going to be one of the catalysts of this area.

think along the lines of a bigger picture. people WANT this.

LED's, giant sound systems and limos... sounds like needless pretension for people with more money than taste.
