The Post has another story on the temporary closing of the waterfront club H20 following a deadly shooting last weekend. Some parties are calling for the club's license. I mention this here because H20 is planning to close its doors (due to redevelopment on the waterfront) and to reopen as The Big Chill in Ivy City. ANC 5B recently agreed to enter into a voluntary agreement with the club.
This story is also interesting because the club's operations and security measures are coming under scrutiny and this raises questions about how much a business like this can do to prevent violence, and how to go about doing so.

Poor Ivy City. Be prepared for long traffic jams and trashy streets that the owner will not take responsibility for.
Your lawns and cars will be covered with porn postcards for parties in PG and Big Chill patron's beer/liquor bottles because they want a buzz before they enter the club...
You will not be able to get to your home on weekends or holiday because of the long lines of cruisers waiting "to be seen"
i'll second that.
especially about the trash.
i feel bad for those poor folks out in ivy city.
they must not get out much, cuz they have no idea what they'll be getting.
Oh yeah and then there are the blocks of streets with posters stuck on everything that doesn't move.
My aunt used to live in Ivy City, and bless her heart, her old neighbors do not deserve this guy moving into the neighborhood.
People come on. yeah, there may be some flyers in the area, but please its not nearly as bad as you think. I went to the clubs in SE alot and I never saw any of those problems. Seriously tho. What do you want everyone to do on the weekends, sit at home and be boring. This is a city, and a city should have nightlife. Thats why people move to cities, for entertainment and choices. Lets NOT bring the boring suburbs to the city.
Those clubs are for people from the suburbs. It's clear that you never went to Zanzibar or H20 since they are in SW and not SE.
The "it's a city" arguement for trash and noise is getting old.
yeah, h2o was in sw.
and, yeah, it was suburbanites from maryland (where the owner lives) that frequented the spots (still do, i guess).
i'm telling you, it's these transplants from the midwest that have never seen anything like dc that are all about loving the trash and shootings.
it makes them feel like they're so far from home, that they love it.
i work with people like that.
trust me, the folks that support this crap will be gone from dc soon.
they aren't from here.
if they were, they'd be outraged.
some folks need to grow up, or live in a real city for over twenty years.
whatever, i'm sure they think they're locals.
they're more like lo-sers.
I am a SW resident near H20 and not that far from the new ballpark (i.e., the old strip club locations).
I am glad to see these places leaving my neighborhood. But, I am sad they are migrating to yours. These places are not good for a neighborhood. They degrade quality of life and are terrible for young children to be around.
I suggest that you really fight these moves. I have posted the same advice before about the strip clubs and, to my surprise, received a lot of pushback. But, I am convinced you do not want more clubs of any nature around you -- they just bring bad things with them.
I live in IVY CITY and club LOVE is already here. So, what are you all talking about? Is this a race issue? cause it's nigro night on Saturday @ h2o, and Friday @ Love....and nigroz live in IVY CITY and we'll luv to get drunk punks to rob in our 'hood...bring 'em on....
