Looks like fun. Looking fwd to taking part in these now that our wedding is past.
What's up with this: two beautiful mature trees on our street were cut down by the city last week because a couple of residents complained and then our ANC rep badgered the city with a letter. That's all it takes to destroy two trees? Is there no appeal process for neighbors? Now everyone will have the sun beating down on their houses, increasing cooling bills, and property values will go down because these beautiful trees are gone. Anyone have any insight on this? I'm scared to death one of *my* neighbors who doesn't feel like raking leaves in the fall will have our trees taken down, too.

I know there were two trees on my block that appeared to be OK (Full of green leaves), but turned out to be in really poor condition, had outlived the average age for their species, and potentially a threat in a major windstorm. It was sad to see them go, but it was the right decision. I have no idea if your situation was similar, but it might have been.

In relation to your last sentance, are they your trees because they are on your proerty, or are they in tree boxes in front of your property. I am not a lawyer, so I am not even going to try to get too much into the discussion, but if they really are on your property it would be hard for anyone to force you to take them down.

They're on public property. I can see your point about the danger of falling if they really were too old. But this all seems very haphazard...they complained about the trees, the ANC rep wrote a letter to the city, and the trees were gone. Now at the very least the city should flatten out the sidewalk and put in new trees and the complainers should water them. IMHO, of course.
