Still hard to beat Popeyes, if it's fresh. The H St Popeyes may not be pretty, but it beats the heck out of the 8th St Popeyes, which is known for it's 'selective' service.
Um, because it sticks out of a plexi-glass window & that window is to a carryout that frequently plays host to dice games inside. There is also sometimes an interesting crowd outside (probably aided by the proximity to a liquor store that sells singles).
Okay, I gotta say, compared to the 8th Street Popeyes, the H Street store is nirvana: clean, bright, a manager that seems glad to see you. 8th Street is just nasty, the staff seem like it's a burden to serve you, and the prep area looks like it hasn't been cleaned since the Johnson Administration (Andrew, not Lyndon).
And 5 WHOLE wings for four-and-a-quarter is tough to beat. But I still gotta try Crown when whe floating crap game isn't around.
I like Cluck-U's buffalo chicken strips the best--the hotter, the better so far.
I'm intrigued by their "911" sauce--their corporate website says that it cannot be ordered online and must be consumed on the premises. That has got to be some hot stuff (hottest I've done so far is their "Nuclear", two steps below "911").
inked, what's possibly more annoying than the dice-hurling sketchiness at crown is the regular daily collection of gents at the corner of 7th and H (alongside the Fashion One). All day, everyday...like it's their living room. Totally annoying

But it is convenient if you can't meet a bet in one of the nearby craps games!
or if you need your fried chicken fix for breakfast.
So how's the chicken? I like Cluck U's livers and gizzards, their fried chicken not so much.

I walked by the ATM soon after it appeared and overheard a woman say, "What fool would use that!"
Also, the chicken is not so good. I tried it once--stick with Popeyes, Cluck-U or Horace & Dickies.
but is it cheap??
cuz, if it is, then u know, HEY, i'm ALLLLL about that!
everything is getting so damn expensive on the street!
:op
That what we need in the hood, a blind chicken taste test.
Popeys, H&D, Cluck U etc.... I know H&D would win.

Crown's chicken is quite good, I will attest. And as for that ATM, how is all that different from the ATM outside PNC bank on the next block?

Crown has the BEST fried chicken! I'm originally form the south, and it's the best I've had. Also, try their homemade sweet potato pies!
