Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens
The gardens are a fieldtrip across the river (you can go by metro), but they are much closer to us than they are to the majority of the city. Saturday I headed over to check out the lotus blooms and the annual festival. The crowd was sizable (apparently the gardens never get that many visitors at once, the Post article must have helped), but it never felt crowded. The gardens and the arboretum (located just north of Carver Terrace) are beautiful places not too far from from our homes, but they are places that too many of us visit only rarely, if at all. I've got more photos from Saturday , but I still need to upload them, and I'll post some once they are ready.

I can't say enough fabulous things about the Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens! There is a long term plan to create a contiguous space with the arboretum and The Gardens. This is a D.C. treasure and few people have been to it - no other city in this country can boast a similar amenity.
Anonymous,
I run in the Arboretum or the Aquatic Gardens nearly every weekend, and I have tried running in both, but that involves a run on the highway (NY Ave.) or through Benning Road each way. How did you hear about the proposed connection of the two preserves, and who will fund it - USDA (Forest Service) or National Park Service)? Any idea on when it will happen?
