Hello All!-
Granville Moore's, the Atlas District newest restaurant, will be opening Friday, August 3rd. Doors open at 5:00 pm, with food service beginning @ 5:30. As this is our first weekend, we will be doing a "soft" opening. We will offer 50+ Belgian beers, wines by the glass, as well as the full menu for your enjoyment. Please come and join us as we celebrate several years of hard work, but understand this is our first weekend of business. You will be pleasantly surprised this weekend, and wowed next week!

Can't wait. What will the grand opening have that the soft opening does not?
Sounds great. anybody want to open up something on the west side of H street?
No.
The first night was chaotic; the place was near-packed and the staff struggling admirably to maintain some semblance of order. Joe Englert himself tended door. The decor is dark yet welcoming: rough-hewn dark wood bars upstairs and down, stripped bare walls and ceilings with beams on display, and a well-aged piano. We were overjoyed to hear the Kinks on the radio--twice!
The kitchen ran out of mussels early on (that said, our neighbors at the upstairs bar enjoyed theirs), so we ordered fries, which were fine, and three great sauces: whole mustard, house-made ketchup (with peppers?), and a curry mayonnaise. A salt and vinegar reduction mentioned on the menu was not yet available.
The beer selection was also strong. Out of the 60 or so bottles available (no list available yet, even on-premises), we enjoyed Chimay, KO Blonde (sweet, with malty overtones), and Saison Dupont (lemony, and a favorite of the friendly bartender--Tom?). On tap is Stella.
Bottom line: much promise but what can you really tell from such a busy first night? We'll be back early next week to sample the mussels and get a better sense of the place. But what an auspicious opening night! Dr. Granville's was obviously more eagerly awaited than anyone realized.
Several photos here.
Ok, very tired (so please excuse any typos, because beer was involved), but Dr Grnville's was amazing. This was by far the best food I've ever had on H street. I met up with many friends and ran into others. We had beers on tap and beers in bottles (only one lambic [bottled] availble right now [strawberry not carbonated, or at lease very lightly carbonated])/ We also had the tamarind mussels, the smoked applewood mussels, and the fries with the garlic mayonnaise sauce and the vinegar sauce (I also tried the curry sauce). Everything was excellent. The cream sauces were especially good for fries (frites). If you order mussels you should also order bread to soak up the juices (trust me on this). Top noych food, and not just for H Street. This stuff was amazingly good. Try it NOW. You will come back. Excellent. Excellent. Excellent.
Went back to Doc Moores tonight (8/13) and was not as pleased with all of our choices like last time. Last time the fries were to die for crisp, hot and I could have eaten 2 bowls. Tonght they were barely cooked and not nice. The manager Chris said that they are chanding the menu to be more like pub fare. Gone will be the great entrees, some of the appetizers, and not telling what else. Had the scallops which were great. Seemed as though service was not quiet up to the same standard as last week. Poor chef was running food himeself. Asked for dipping sauce not once but three times before we finally got it. Granted the place was busy, but it was old. The hamburger had great flavor and was cooked per request. I hate to see this place become just another sandwich joint with featured specials (entree that were removed). Why change the menu so quickly? So if you want some of that great snapper, wild mushroom riostto, etc..HURRY
