As part of
Metropolitan Police Department reorganization plan both the First District and the 5th District will get new Commanders effective Sunday. The new Commander for 1D will bw David Kamperin, and in 5D we'll get Lamar Greene (who comes to us from 1D where he ran a substation).

Thank God they get rid-off Commander Greene of the 5th district; two summers a go she ground most of 5D police vehicles because fuel keys were missing, in return putting 5th residents safety in jeopardy
I'm glad to see that Fenty's appointees continue to shake things up, which is something this town's bureaucracy badly needs. I was fairly suspicious of him as a candidate, but since taking office I've been impressed with him overall.
I'm glad that Commander Groomes is getting such a well-deserved promotion, though I will definitely miss having her as our 1D Commander.
It sounds like Assistant Chief Groomes will have greater ability to effect changes in how patrols are operated, including getting officers out of the cars and onto the streets. Her leadership in her new role will benefit residents across the District.
I look forward to working with new 1D Commander Kamperin. I'm confident that he wouldn't have been promoted if he didn't bring qualities similar to those that made Assistant Chief Groomes such an asset to the community.
This is a big loss for 1st District citizens.
I'd advise patrol slackers to turn in your retirement papers. Groomes will expect you to do your job, and will hold you accountable.
this is such a well deserved promotion for Commander Groomes- I have been awed by her service and amazing responsiveness to our community. I certainly think that Kamperin has some giant shoes to fill.
commander groomes is awesome.
probably the second most admired and respected official after the newly promoted lanier.
i'm sorry to lose her, but hopefully, kamperin will be a decent transition.
i definitely agree with the 'big shoes to fill' statement.
congrats, groomes.
you rock!
Has anyone else noticed that there's now a bicycle patrol in the area? I noticed a couple of officers patrolling together yesterday and wondered if this was something new.
