Gridskipper: New H Street=Old U Street

The writer could use a little less attitude (maybe a friend of that Post announcement writer?) and I'm baffled as to why they omitted Dr. Granville's (other night spots like Rose's Dream and the Majestic, as well as the theaters) but here's a page on H Street's nightlife highlights as visited by the author. Curiouser and curiouser, it seems that Gridskipper has mentioned Dr. Granville's before. Perhaps the author of the second article didn't get the memo.

You know, I read the FT blogs daily and I really do not get all the negativity about new businesses in the NE area. If the buildings are abandoned or there are "too many black people," somebody has something smartass to say. If the buildings have been rehabbed and the businesses are thriving, there is negativity. If there happens to be more Caucasian or other nationalities moving to the area, there is even more negativity. What do people want? What do they expect? The face of NE DC is changing, regardless of whether some people like it or not. I happen to have purchased a property on what I learned was one of the most dangerous blocks in NE DC and I rent it out to what always boils down to be Caucasians and I never have any problems and I encourage these people to visit the H Street businesses. Perhaps all the negativity is the reason the owner of Jimmy Valentine's is very hesitant to advertise his business and it's a damn shame. I personally go through other channels to advertise my rental and I do extremely well, but I feel like if I bring any kind of major publicity about my place, that someone is gonna say something negative about it that is not true. When is all the negativity going to stop? Is life THAT bad for some that they have to go out of their way to tear down the dreams and aspirations of others? All the "hatoration" must end NOW. Let's be happy that the H street "corridor" or street, or blocks, or whatever people want to call it, is doing very well and growing. This is definitely something to be happy about and I am proud I bought my place near there, despite what the place used to be. Truth be told, you can get shot, mugged, killed, raped, or have any other crime committed against you anywhere in the District or PG County, or anywhere else people live--good or bad. Ok, I'm off my soapbox now, but please, let's be encouraging to each other, instead of so negative and tearing each other down. On another note, this site is a goldmine for new information about our neighborhood. Thank you, Ms. Inked and to everyone else who pushes a positive vibe on this site.

what's with the writer's forced attempts at slang usage. "all that is pimp in the district"? wtf? it reads like the author was on dust when he (she?) typed it...

the write up might sound negative, but i thought it was actually amusing -- and true.

let's be honest -- he/she says what others might not, but it's true!

i especially like the line about chicken joints and wig shops.
