The
Times talks up H Street again. Though this piece is fairly bare bones, I think it might to more to attract visitors who've never been than the last Times piece that we saw. If nothing else this drawing does more for me than the photo of the Autozone parking lot that accompanied the last story.

wow, I was proud when a commercial district I am working with in PGH made this feature, but now I don't know what to believe...
Do you have to PAY for this kind of publicity?
you all get so much press! congrats - and keep up the good work
It's an article, not an advertisement.
This is the third article I'm aware of in the last 7 months or so in the New York Times. I think it is great that the street is getting press, but was also wondering along the lines of the previous posts....does H Street have a PR firm? There seems to be an article every few months in the Times and the Post writes about it consistently...even to the point where the Source mentioned Stella Bleu for holiday gifts. Is this random interest in the street or is there a targeted effort with press? Does anyone know?....just wondering.
Joe Englert:
We do our own publicity and continually talk to the press. Then momentum usually does the rest. Publications and newspapers read each other and tend to want to trump one another when it comes to a particular subject. Also, you must understand, Style seldom talks to Metro, Metro does not talk to Travel or Real Estate. So, there is a good chance you can appear 4-5 times in one newspaper but never in the same section twice.
One thing to keep in mind, our success might seem modest to those who live and see it every day. But the riots and the flight of the middle and upper class from most American cities in the 60's and 70's is a very defining part of our history.
Seeing H st come clawing back touches many people and is a great starting point to talk about cities, race, class and our future as a culture and country.
Very well-stated, Joe
Thanks for your take on it and the information.
