PSA 504 Meeting Saturday

IMG_4457
This month's Police Service Area meeting for PSA 504, which includes the Florida Market, Carver-Langston, Ivy City, and Trinidad ares, will be held on Saturday at 10am. The meeting location rotates each month, so keeping up can be tricky, but this month's meeting is at the Youth Service Center, at 1000 Mt. Olivet Road.

I think the shooting of a guy in the back yesterday on Trinidad Ave is consistent with the four shots I called into 911.
Everyone come to the PSA meeting!

Is anyone else concerned that all our old 311 calls (loitering, suspicious people, loud music, drunks, illegal oil changes, etc.) will now all go to 911? This just doesn't seem like a good idea to me in that I don't think of these things as "emergencys" but I certainly see them as reportable offenses that require police attention. I also think calling 911 for these types of things will bog down the system and slow down the respone to more serious offenses. What do others think about this?

Is it possible that it's going to the same call center but different operators, something along those lines? My latest two 911 calls produced pretty quick responses.

Thanks Rob. This is entirely possible. My main concern is that since I've been lucky and haven't had to call 911 from my house (knock on wood), that the 311 calls that I make farily regularly will now seem like a 911 nuisance.

I mean I'll now have to call 911 when someone is changing their oil in the alley behind my house, or if a group of kids is hanging out on my front steps, or someone is playing loud music in front of the house, etc. It seems a little extreem calling 911, but that's what I now feel forced to do.

I hope it will works for MPD and us.

Anyone ever provide a summary of the ANC06 meeting from Jan 10? Seemed like they were going to address a lot of issues that are popular on this blog...

WOW. what a luxury.

call the cops if someone is changing oil in your alley? why not go and have a word with them?

kids on your porch? not trying to be rude here, but are you mute? it does wonders to go out and chat with the local kids. i, for one, am not th local photographer for some of the kids on the block. instead of getting in trouble, they're getting creative.

i think it's people like you that prompted the change.

seriously....

you live in dc. don't hole yourself up in your home and call the cops when the wind blows.

you're not in iowa anymore...

Less of a risk in getting shot when you call the cops than "having words" with those who are breaking the law.

if you want to avoid a risk, move to reston.

seriously, you can make a big difference just by being a good neighbor.

you don't have to call the cops for everything. that's ludicrous, unless you're in iowa or north dakota or somehwere.

you call the cops about some guy changing oil in your alley, i call the cops about a rape victim bleeding in front of my house.

you want right of way?

gimme a break.

Maybe if they lived in Iowa, they wouldn't have to deal with the bleeding rape victims, and they should back there, right poo poo? Lord, somebody should nominate you for cyberbully of the month. If only you didn't speak the truth sometimes...

Poo poo said, "you call the cops about some guy changing oil in your alley, i call the cops about a rape victim bleeding in front of my house."

Exactly, goes back to my original point. The first is a 311 call the second a 911 call. Now, I will be calling 911 about the oil change and when the police are responding to that your rape victim will bleed to death in front of your house.

What the hell is going on here...our pizza delivery man just told us there was a homicide at a gas station in or near Trinidad tonight. That's a murder and two attempted murders in one week in our neighborhood.

Rob, poo poo's busy on another blog right now, but he's asked me to tell you to go back to Iowa if you're prone to getting rattled by a lil' ol' murder. You're in D.C. now, and if you want to be cool, learn to roll with it like me 'n poo.

i'm told jimmy's tire is on fire. i'm going to try to photograph if i can do so without getting in the way of the emergency personnel and come back with some shots.

Yeah, where's Poo when you need him? The other night when they were having a pitched gun battle under our bedroom window I coulda sent him out there to ask the good neighbors to either have their put silencers on or have their shootouts somewhere else.
:-D

quit pickin' on me.

i just call 'em like i see 'em.

and, at least i know my neighbors.

i guess i could call the cops on them, but then...

ugh, that's a whole different story about being a civic minded CITIZEN.

i wish i knew who some of you complainers were, so i could call the cops on you when you have one too many trash bags to pick up. or some such mundane crap.

I wish I knew you too poo poo so you could pick up my mail when I go home to Iowa next month to visit my grandpa.

poo poo,

if you'd be a good neighbor and post with your real name, you could get to know a lot of us.

Poo Poo at 2:13 said, "seriously, you can make a big difference just by being a good neighbor."

Poo Poo why do you assume I'm not being a good neighbor because I call the cops when someone is changing their oil in the alley behind my house? I AM being the good neighbor by looking after the environment (did I mention they don't use a container when draining the oil?) What about the other surrounding neighbors that now have oil in their backyards? What about general concern of the environment?

Besides, when I have tried to talk to them I get this look/attitude of "Who do you think you are white boy coming over here and telling me what to do? I've been coming over here from MD 10 years changing my oil in this alley."

Please Poo Poo, give me a break! I am being the good neighbor - he's the one that has already decided to be the bad neighbor (from MD). I had every right to call 311 on them and now I will be calling 911. And as I said before, my 911 call for an oil change could now interfere with your 911 call to stop the rape in front of your house.

You're not thinking on this one.
