I can't wait for this development to become reality. It will be a major catalyst for redevelopment of the entire area and bring much needed attention and amenities to the residents in the surrounding neighborhoods.
The link to the renderings is helpful. The southern (Florida Ave) facades are fine but the building facing NY Ave is astonishingly dull. It's disappointing to see another set of cookie cutter buildings in DC. The developers in our city should be ashamed of themselves.
i guess that says something about the folks that have the $$ to develop the city. i'm sure if it were left to us residents, the landscape would look dramatically different.

but yeah, it's up to us penniless non developers to complain about the folks with major $$ in their pockets.

DC lets neighborhood-locally elected people complain about height, facade, density, % of housing for folks that don't pay taxes, etc.
so.. it's in their interest to work toward a basic common denominator to get things done. and yes, bland is a basic common denominator for folks without vision. yes, residents are entitled to their own opinion, but i'm willing to bet that more than half of the folks that scream loudest will be back in their hometowns in indiana, iowa, or somesuch.

Poo Poo, I think most of those protesters are probably long-term super local. And, yeah some people protest stupid stuff, but much of is protested is legit. Amazingly many developers put out stuff is just crap.

Have you read about this project, or looked at the plans? Two office buildings will be along the tracks, with apartments and a hotel at the Florida/NY Ave corner. This also includes ground floor retail, and it's even going to add a traffic light at 2nd & Florida.
Basically a great project, and I can't see anything to complain about here.

There is a grocery store coming. Constitution square directly south of the ATF building will house a 50,000 sq ft grocery store.
Last month the DC government passed a bill to help pay for the large underground parking garage for it. There are rumblings that it will be a Harris Teeter but no final word yet. We're supposed to hear more in a "couple weeks" but isn't it always a couple weeks away.

As a nearby resident, I think this development is better than what's there. If it brings in money and residents to the area, that would be an improvement.

"sit atop" or "site adjacent"? I haven't seen anything showing it on top of the NY Ave station.

I agree with the commenter who says the design is bland/cookie cutter. These buildings look exactly like the office buildings down on K street.

That would be awesome if I lived in the Convention Center. I'd have people come over all the time, just to show off stuff. And the parties...:)
