Reader Question
I'm not familiar with this one. Does anyone have any info? Any word on what was going down last night, on 11th Street between H and Florida? Lots of fire trucks around 7-8pm.

Unfortunately no.
But I have another question--what on earth was going on above Sidamo last night? It sounded like a live band was playing in what I thought was an art studio. I know several residents tried to get the "band" to turn down the sound and the police were called. Apparently they claimed to have a permit for the live music, but of course no one has seen any signs for the permit process.
Our house is midway down the block and the music was audible inside.
The problem was at 827 11th, a vacant property that burned in Jan.'07. The owner has been rennovating after the fire and was using a heavy duty primer product to help seal the wood that was not removed from the fire and to mask the burnt odor. The contractors did not properly ventilate the house leaving all the windows closed causing the fumes to seep into several of the adjoining row houses.
Ha, I figured we were talking about the Washington gas people that have been on the 800 block of 11th on and off for two months digging and re-digging the same whole....
800 block of h street was closed off by police cars and a fire truck today around 4:30pm. traffic was being re-routed, inlcuding the x2 i was on. anyone know what happened there?
Hi, I can answer the question about said "band" over Sidamo. My girlfriend and I have recently rented this space as a work/live studio. Our intention is to use the spot as a practice space for our respective musical projects. First of all, I would like to offer my sincerest apologies to anyone on 5th St. who was affected by our volume. I did not realize at the time the proximity of some of your backyards. In the future we will keep the volume at a more reasonable level as well as insulate the back area of our home so as to limit how far the sound carries. We will also institute a strict cut off time on weeknights. In regards to the neighbor intervention, we never claimed to have a permit for live music nor do we intend to have live performances for the public. While I feel it was unfortunate how the situation was handled by a few people, I again wish to apologize and stress that we are available to be communicative with our neighbors and look forward to being an active part of this neighborhood.
Thanks for the explanation. We appreciate the steps you are taking. We live in the middle of the block, not close to the corner, and could hear the music throughout our entire house. It's a relief to know if won't be a problem again.
