A look at what's going on in Trinidad, on H Street, and in the larger area north of Capitol Hill.

Two Things
From an alley around 3rd and K in spring of 2005
First, I thought people might be interested in this maybe slightly out of date, but still 2007, pdf with cool maps and a chart of upcoming projects in the NoMA/NY Ave metro area.
Down the block from the properties in question
Second, I saw this stuff on the Ward 5 listserv.
# PR17-0642
"HOME AGAIN IVY CITY DEMONSTRATION REDEVELOPMENT PROJECT DISPOSITION APPROVAL RESOLUTION OF 2008".
# PR17-0643
"HOME AGAIN IVY CITY DEMONSTRATION REDEVELOPMENT PROJECT SUPPLEMENTAL DISPOSITION APPROVAL RESOLUTION OF 2008".
From the titles you'd think it was all stuff about Ivy City. But that would be WAY too logical. Check the addresses. Most are in Ivy City. One is just across NY Ave in NW, but three of them are a little cluster on Wylie Street. The addresses on Wylie are-
1215 Wylie
1216 Wylie
1217 Wylie

The constitution square development is supposed to break ground in the first quarter of 2008. The DC government last month agreed to pitch in for a parking garage for what I hope will be a Harris Teeter. There has been no news on this in month though. I hope the credit crunch hasn't affected financing.
As for the second item. Some blogger a month back found a request for a developer in building a condo building in the parking lot at North Capitol & Florida NW. I wonder if this is the same project you're alluding to. I would rather see retail there but anything is better than what's there now.
Hey John,
I'm not sure about the status of most of these projects. A good number of them appear to be in stasis. Some are slightly outside my boundary, so I may just not be clued into the action. I did happen to read an email on the 6C listserv suggesting that Green and Rose might be seeking to unload their property at 1001 3rd Street NE.
the property just north of green & roses property on 300 L street(http://www.300l.com/) had been stalled forever, but is back on track.

This is right across from my house. I'm not looking forward to the noise from construction, but I will be glad to have the vacant property removed.
The NOMA BID site has a recent map that you can click through to see who owns what.

I've heard rumblings that Greenbaum & Rose wants to unload the 1001 3rd St NE site, but as I said on the anc6c list, that's just rumor, nothing verified. I wish they'd do something with it because it's an eyesore. Same for the space across the street at 300 L. I saw that same blog post back in the fall that poo poo mentioned, but there's been no movement since then and nothing filed (that I'm aware of anyway) with BZA or elsewhere.
Regarding Constitution Square, the Tax Bill that passed last month did include tax relief (in the form of abatement) for a parking garage, but I don't know what other details might need to be worked out. I do think we'll be hearing something in the next few weeks regarding the grocery space and I'm hopeful it will be good news.

Ah, a good link for the sidebar I think. Thanks for the info Anne.
Anne,
It would be great to hear some good news regarding this grocery store but it seems these announcements are always "a few weeks away" but never arrive.
I know there were quite a few agencies thinking of moving to NOMA which were going to make their decisions last year but we never heard. A centralized NPR was one I believe along with a few government agencies.
so who exactly is building on wylie?
The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission will be moving its 700+ employees to One NoMa Station in June.
As far as other agencies considering NOMA, I've only heard what the Post has reported. In the running supposedly, but that's all I've read. Ditto with NPR.
The "a few weeks away" info is vague (and frustrating, at least to me), but that's all I've been told. I'm still optimistic.
* National Public Radio, which has been looking at locations in Near Southeast as well as NoMa and Silver Spring to consolidate its offices in 400,000 square feet of space, says it will make its decision by the end of May, according to the Montgomery Gazette, in an article that says Montgomery County has made a formal offer to lure NPR to Silver Spring. It's been rumored that NPR is the "preferred option" for DC officials to take over the city's lease at 225 Virginia Avenue (the old Post Plant).
btw, that was not me.
i obtained that info from jdland....
gotta check lots of blogs to figure out what exactly is going on in dc....
Hi Inked, since you mentioned the sidebar, Espresso is misspelled over there next to SOVA. :-)
Inked:
I appreciate your efforts in getting information on these large projects. I know they are bit North/West of H Street proper, but they are huge developments and most of them will, in the long run, have much more of an impact on the overall community than, say, one more coffee shop opening or other item on H Street itself.
If H Street folks know about these things in the development stage we can press for neighborhood-friendly elements, like first floor retail and restauarant. This is our only chance to have some input to avoid getting block after block of bland square buildings with nothing for the neighborhood residents.
Rob, thanks. At one point I noticed that my link to DeafDC explained it as a site about living dead in DC. I try to catch my spelling errors, but sometimes they sneak by.
Hillman,
I am interested in that area. I just meant I'm less familiar with everyday happenings over there because I don't walk those streets everyday. This is particularly true in the winter. On the other hand, I'm in Trinidad and walking down Florida and H every day.
yeah, i agree with hillman.
we do need to press for these sorts of amenities, especially so we won't scare off the strip club clientle. :o)
