A look at what's going on in Trinidad, on H Street, and in the larger area north of Capitol Hill.

City Paper: Street Preachers
The City Paper goes in depth with the Black Israelites who preach on the street. This article might be of interest to those who follow the goings on at 8th and H.
To reiterate, the friends and neighbors who live near H and 8th St NE support any group's right to assemble and preach whatever they desire in the public space--we just don't want to hear them in our homes.
The group featured in the City Paper (Israelite Church of God in Jesus Christ) actually is different than the usual H & 8th St NE group called the Isrealite School of Universal Practical Knowledge (ISUPK).
I don't think the two sects care for each other much, which makes sense if they compete for money and recruits.
For a brief period in 2005, the two groups would assemble next to each other at H and 8th St NE and try to "outpreach" the other using amplifiers.
too bad we can't find out where they live, and protest outside of their house.
funny thing is that you can't be as racist/sexist as them, or you'd likely get hauled in to jail.
it's a f*cked situation. and evans is a twit. i can't believe that he can be "lobbied" by jackasses.
if we could only dig up some of his stints at the mayflower!
maybe i should confront and yell back at these idiots, get beaten to death, and THEN the city might CONSIDER doing something to appease the zealots, because you know local government won't stand for residents. lots of them, like the 8th street noise pollutionists, are more connected to MD and VA than DC.
The most hilarious clash I saw between some black Isrealites and pedestrians happened at Union Square in NY. This old Korean lady (she said he was Korean, not stereotyping), started yelling back at them. Every time they would quote a passage in the Bible, she would quote one back. It was highly amusing having this four foot lady get in their faces and make them stutter:0
Does VA or MD have a noise ordinance? Poo said we should protest in front of their house, but if they lived outside the District would that even be possible?
The Feds generally defer noise regulation and enforcement to municipalities. Since 2004, D.C. is one of the only major metro areas without ANY decibel limits on amplified non-commercial speech.
More than likely, everyone outside the District has adequate legal protection from unreasonable amplified people.
Forget the preachers. poo poo's ire is correctly focused: Members of your city council who placed special interests above protecting your right to quiet inside home sweet home.
It seems to me the Kwame Brown is another who should be hit up big time. This is the guy who has his banner hanging on H Street(to show how much he supports the street, as alluded to at a recent ANC meeting),sponsers the bill and then votes to table it. Now if that isn't a "smooth" move, I don't what is.
KB did have his campaign headquarters on H Street. Are they still there? Seems like they could be a good target for some action. Shouldn't people be walking in every day and complaining?

That was noise hell.
wow! how did that go down?
preacher a: "yo, everybody. look at me! i'm crazy!!"
preacher b: "don't listen to him, ya'all. look over here! i'm much crazier!"
preacher a: "yeah, that's what you think! i'm clearly the craziest!!"
preacher b: "fat chance, buddy. i'm super duper craaaaazzzzy!!"
preacher a: "if you're 'super duper craaaaazzzzzzzzz!!' then i'm super duper craaaaazzzzzy times a hundred!"
preacher b: "times infiniti!!"
and so on, and so on....
I heard they finally settled the whole thing by break dance fighting...
OMFG, This has to be the funniest thing I have read in a long time.

KB is up for re-election this year. Lets make some noise about NOT voting for Kwame Brown.
