Five Guys Comes to NoMa

As previously mentioned by Poo Poo in the comments, Five Guys is moving to NoMa, and will reportedly occupy the last remaining space in the ATF complex.

Has there been a recent update posted on the status of the new Harris Teeter at 15th & Penn SE? I have a hazy memory that they were supposed to open this month.

Clearly NoMa is developing much quicker than H St. I'm assuming that as NoMa develops there's a natural push for H St. to follow suit, though clearly it won't be leading the way. In fact, I used to think that the value of my house (north of H) would be dependent on the future of H, the more I'm reading about NoMa the more I'm beginning to think my property values will increase from the NoMa improvements more than waiting on H St. improvements. Would others see this as an accurate assessment?

The distinction is that NoMa is like the area around the Baseball Stadium, in that commercial and industrially-zoned blocks have been completely cleared and large developers are working each block. That approach is not going to fill in along H Street where the properties are much smaller. Personally I like living near the combination of both types of neighborhoods. Its nice to get the benefit of a giant supermarket in Noma but have a main street commercial district as well. There aren't many parts of the city that get both.

I'm agreeing with you anon 11:39. It's nice to have both areas in close proximity. Noma for property value, H str for personal life and as well as property value... LOL

Yup! And along the same lines, there are not a bunch of BANANAS up there opposing every new development.

BANANA (n) Acronym. Degenerate form of NIMBY. "Build Absolutely Nothing Anywhere Near Anything" residents.

Wouldn't it be nice to see some developement in that huge vacant lot on Bladensburg by the safeway and CVS. Would be a perfect time to do it now since there is a construction zone in the area already working on the Starbust Intersection...

I'm actually impressed with how they have transformed that delapatated building into condos(i'm guessing) on Bladensburg.

very cogent arguments, and a good angle for senate square.

close to union station, NoMa, and H street.

but... when people ask "where do you live?", do you say capitol hill north, old town, NoMa, H street, etc.

word of mouth drives sales and rentals. is this larger neighborhood so fractured?

I tell em Union Station, on the assumption that peeps actually know where the heck that is.

Can someone post exactly what the boundaries of NOMA are? This discussion has got me thinking. And what do you call the area north of H Street, south of Florida?

I'm curious, I finally drove by Constitution Sqaure site. Seems like a really odd "residential" area. Do you think it will warm up, once more buildings start going in?
