What: A Patrol Service Area Meeting
Where: At the Trinidad Recreation Center
1310 Childress Street, NE
Washington, DC When: Saturday March 15th 10-1130am
Why: Learn about neighborhood crime trends. Meet your neighbors. Eat free donuts.
Just to head off any questions about this photo it was taken on Oates, just off Bladensburg Rd. White Boy is the street name for a particular well known dealer who hangs out on 16th. I'm assuming the graffiti refers to him.

Is this a racial slur? Just wondering. If so, how? If not, why?
Why do they hold a crime prevention meeting when the majority of the people neighbourhood crime effects are at work? It seems like if they REALLY wanted to fight crime in our neighbourhood, they would pick a meeting time when the majority of our community could attend. Not during the day...doof!!! Way to go D.C.! Another example of our officials not using common sense to fight everyday problems. Next time, try to hold the meeting at night. Ok? I bet then more people will show up and we can finally work on stopping the gun fire and violence that plagues our area.
Anon 10:03,
The meeting is on Saturday moron.
Actually, Anon. 10:57, there's nothing in the post to indicate that the meeting is on a Saturday.
Actually, Anon 11:02 above the picture where it says "PSA 504 Mtg Saturday" suggests that it's on Saturday.
yeah, but how do we know what year it is? huh? i mean, they could really have their crap together and have this on the agenda for 2009!
Was anyone at the Red and Black last night? I saw many cameras out for the Urban Voodoo show and am looking for pictures of the opening act...
I think the graffiti is a reference to the dealer, who is not white, but also not particularly dark skinned.
But if "Black Boy" or the always unspeakable "N-word Boy" were spray painted on this door, would it have been posted out of fear of being seen as racist? Why should it not be considered any less offensive to a white person? I'm just askin'.
Some say we too often bring race into these conversation, but are we saying that only out of fear of maybe being called a racist? I say we're ALL racist, so why are we so afraid to admit it, talk about it, and move on?

Isn't the dude from Rare Essense named "White Boy?"
Truth be told. Of course most of the people are racist, even the so called liberals. I am a non-white and was termed racist for dating white girls exclusively by a so called liberal. Frankly speaking, it should be nobody's business who one dates. This is a free country. How come no one questions your average "White girl" who exclusively dates "White boys" his preferences? or say Asian girls exclusively wanting to date Asian guys.
Since the grafiti (probably) refers to a specific guy, the grafiti isn't racist. Whether the guy's name is racist, is another matter. One that I'm not sure I can wade through...
maybe it's because he's a boy that sells a drug that comes in the form of white powder.
Even so, it's still offensive, only because this gets posted and if it said "N-word" it wouldn't even be posted.
I think some people of color are quick to scream "racisim" when it may not be and some whites are too afraid to claim "reverse-racism" when that's exactly what it is.

i'll be the first to admit that i'm racist. i think we all are, to some extent, and under certain circumstances. the only people that i'm not too racist against, are spics like me. that's when i start to get more classist.
brain...slowly...melting...
Oh, I thought that said "white dog" and so did my dog for that matter. He was pissed because he's mostly white with brown paws and muzzle and felt strongly that the black lab down the street had something to do with it. Thanks for clarifying - I'll let him know that it was not at all directed towards him.
Hey, former Mayor Williams is one of us now:
"Williams, who raised eyebrows with his staunch determination to remain a renter during his two-term administration, has purchased a luxury loft condominium unit in the revitalizing but still dicey H Street area of Northeast. Last month, he signed a contract for a two-bedroom, 2 1/2 -bathroom unit with a den at Landmark Lofts, the renovated site of the old Capital Children's Museum near Union Station."

Can we assume this doorway isn't Mayor Williams'? Maybe kept for 'keepin it real'?

Hello everyone,
1. Harris Teeter is coming! We finally have confirmation that Harris Teeter has signed a lease with Constitution Square! This will be a full-service, 50K square foot grocery store. Constitution Square also recently announced that the Department of Justice signed a 15-year lease; approximately 2000 Justice employees will move to the development. This project is slated to break ground this spring and deliver sometimes in 2010.
2. Map for March 29th National Marathon: A course map for the March 29th National Marathon is available on the ANC 6a web site at http://anc6a.org/NatMarathon2008.pdf. This map shows, for each mile post, the expected time the first runner will pass that mile post and the time the last runner is expected to pass that mile post (e.g., Mile 2 - 7:10/7:28).

3. Auto safety: Capitol Hill and Near Northeast have seen a rash of car break-ins. Please do not leave anything in sight in your vehicle. Thieves are smashing windows to steal from the car interior.
Cheers,
Anne
