A look at what's going on in Trinidad, on H Street, and in the larger area north of Capitol Hill.

Still Vacant
This photo is from three years ago, but this building [sadly] looks much the same. I believe they put on a new roof, and they did change and tighten up the boards on the windows [adding a functional door to one entrance].
There is a somewhat similar building at 11th and G,(a little out of the area) that had been in the same condition until recently. It was empty for several years, but it looks great now. New windows new interior and finally a new porch! YAH!
At first I thought this was the building at 11th & G, but then realized the one pictured has two front entrances.
The one on 11th & G has made numerous improvements over the past few months. I also noticed it has a single meter leading me to beleive it will be a single family dweling.
Joe Fengler, do you have any insight into what the plans are with this as its happening in our SMD? Thanks.
The house at 11th & G mentioned by PobrePaul (very similiar to the one pictured) is being painted as we "speak." It may have looked worse than the one pictured, so there is some progress on this one.
If it's been sale for longer than 8 months, DCRA can tax it at the vacant rate. Anyone in the immediate vicinity interested in submitting a Vacancy Inspection request? You can do it anonymously via email or quasi-anonymously via fax.
Speaking of a nice corner cafe does anyone know what is happening at 337 H? (SW corner of 4th and H) I have seen them working in there lately.
When that property was finally taxed as vacant the taxes went from $5,554.00 in 2006 to $26,976.50 in 2007. Could that be what motivated them to finally fix up the property?
I pass by this house every day on my way home from work and have seen new windows go in and now, a new paint job. There were several men there working on it the other day so I stopped and asked if it was a residential or commercial property. The man I asked happened to be the owner, and said that it was in fact his house. Too bad - it would have made a great commercial spot on one way or another.

is this 1201 Morse Street? Looks very similar to that one and has a price tag of $411,000! Insane

This is the Morse Street house. it isn't a big place either.
When I was looking for a house back in 2005, this was already on the market. With that price tag it's almost as if they don't want to sell this shell
If it's "for sale" it's not taxed at the vacant property rate.

How do you go about requesting that? There are some eyesores near me that I know are vacant but aren't being taxed as such.
This house originally was listed at 250K back in 05...I'm not sure how or why they've raided the priced to 411K...
I see that place almost everyday...It would make a nice corner store/cafe but not a good house....

Anon 1121, it's going to be a corner store / deli.
Thanks, inked. I appreciate the info!
I hope it is more about bottles of Trefethen and less about forties of Colt 45.

Anon 739, his house as in he plans to move into it? Because that would be some news.
Yes, as in his to move in.

I think Anon 739 is mistaken. The house in the picture is located at the corner of Morse and Montello NE. This house is located at the end of my block and I pass it every day. There has been no change in this house recently. But it would be nice if someone did move into it- or better yet I like the café idea.
