A detail from Daniel Olney's The Progress of the Negro Race. Located in a courtyard in the Dwellings.

I'm linking to the second page of an article on yesterday's school shooting that occurred elsewhere in the city. If you scroll all the way down to the bottom you'll that Chief Lanier was called away from a press conference announcing a recent drug bust in Langston Terrace.

11 months of monitoring carver terrace and all they came up with was confiscating 1 gun and 14k worth of crack and coke?

Good luck trying to find the source now..they done scared em all away.

They made 8 arrests, so I think they probably know the source.

It's a 38 count federal indictment, that's not small. It's also in Langston Terrace, not Carver Terrace.

FBI and MPD Make Key Arrests in Northeast DC Drug Ring

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Metropolitan Police Chief Cathy L. Lanier, Federal Bureau of Investigation Assistant Director in Charge (ADIC) of the Washington Field Office, Joseph Persichini, and US Attorney Jeffrey A. Taylor announced today the arrests and indictment of five individuals in connection with an ongoing investigation of a drug ring operating in Langston Terrace in Northeast, DC.

A 38-count federal indictment was unsealed today, charging eight individuals with conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute more than one kilogram of heroin. The arrests were a result of an operation by members of the FBI/MPD Safe Streets Task Force. Authorities believe the ring was led by Rex Pelote, Sr.

Today, Charles Edward McRae, along with Linda M. Jones, were arrested, in the District of Columbia. Each are members of the Rex Pelote, Sr., crew. Previous arrests consisted of Loretta Belt on April 7, 2008 and Edward Tyrone Farley on April 15, 2008.

During the arrests and execution of the search warrants, authorities seized more than 200 grams of heroin, more than 300 grams of crack cocaine, and one firearm.

“If you’re a resident in that community you would be concerned about a daily operation of any quantity,” Chief Lanier said. She said the investigation into Langston Terrace began after a spate of violence in 2006. Chief Lanier called the take down in Langston Terrace significant.

“Today’s announcement of the indictments, arrests and searches relating to members of the Langston Terrace Crew illustrates the success of the Team DC concept wherein the FBI and MPD share resources, personnel and intelligence to address violent crime issues in the District of Columbia,” ADIC Persichini said. “The FBI will continue to participate in this joint law enforcement effort to make the streets of the District of Columbia safer for its citizens.”

Mayor Fenty also praised the efforts of Team DC and said, “I’m pleased that many of the arrests occurred in the Fifth District, an area that has experienced a critical amount of violence.”

US Attorney Taylor stated, “Today is a good day for Langston Terrace. We want to bring some justice and peace back to our communities.”

Being just days after all the shootings in Trinidad, the team was probably pressured to make their move now, probably for publicity. Hopefully that wasn't the case. In situations like these you want to be sure you're going after the right guy. Otherwise a new ring will pop up again in a matter of weeks or months.

But this is still good news, crack dealers in Trinidad now know theres a possibility that they're being watched, and may close up shop and move across the river.

Yes, hopefully the timing was not simply a result of political pressure. And dealers in Trinidad may take notice, but again, this was in Langston Terrace, NOT in Trinidad.

The Fed is involved now and if I’m dealer in Trinidad, I would wrap-up my operation and move on with my life, because federal charges could come on your way soon.

AND let's not forget that with these arrests will come more intel. These gangbangers will give up their pals, particularly if it means 20 vs. 10. My only wish is that they would bust that dealer on 5th street (and his dad) who drives the white Magnum.

Great. With more snitching comes more shootings..brace yourself people

Well this is a start but I don't think this will be enough. The police need to stop driving around in the patrol cars and walk a little. This will help them to get to know the people.
