It's too early in the season to buy all the produce shown above, but you can still get the makings of great meals at the farmers market. The market, which runs from 9am-12pm each Saturday, features several vendors who offer a variety of products. You can find things like live herbs for planting, goat cheese, sorbet, cows milk cheeses, pork, bratwurst, beef, breakfast tarts, scones, apples, greens, yogurt, artisan breads, cookies, honey, apple butter, and assorted fruits and vegetables as they come into season. The market is located in the middle of the 600 block of H Street, on the south side of the street.

Since you work at the market sometimes, I'm hoping you know the answer to something I've been wondering: how is it determined which vendors go to which of the FreshFarm markets?
They had strawberries last week !
Chris, I don't really have the inside scoop on that one. Obviously it's desirable to sell at Dupont bk it is very high traffic and you can sell a lot. Sometimes a vendor can't add a market, or must drop a market due to staffing issues. There is an effort to get a mix of sellers at each market, and everyone looks at anticipated demand in a certain area. I know that the organizers would really like to get a chicken person to sell at the market, but this is difficult bk I guess it's really hard for small farms to get the appropriate certifications for their chickens. I don't know the details, but I'd be happy to see chicken at the market.

i mean, they must, or they wouldn't hold these farmer's markets.
do you know what their margin is?
Producer-only is a lovely idea but with the cost of diesel and gasoline to get to outlets, is it becoming an affectation?
Wouldn't it be more cost/energy effective if Fresh Farm loosened its requirements to allow farmers to pool their output?
As long as a farmer is a member of the group [the farm has to be inspected], one of the other farmers can sell their stuff for them. You will find two examples of farmer vendors who sell stuff from their own farms as well as from another member farm. So there is no requirement that bans farmers from pooling their output.
