Italian Deli at 1116 H?
All I know about is a single comment left here, but there is a report of an Italian deli locating at 1116 H Street. This is next door to Birdland.

I can confirm the Italian Deli going in at 1116. The owners are in SOVA all the time (Dave & Casey). As a previous poster commented, they are indeed going through the initial permit process for getting work done, in addition to working with some architects and contractors. So it's safe to say, it'll be some time before they're open. It will be the real deal though. They're putting a lot of emphasis on quality. What else can you ask for.
In other new developments, I can also report that an acquaintance of mine who has prior experience in the restaurant business (ownership) is working out the final details for taking over the church (1164 H St.) next door to The Majestic. It's the building right on the alley across from the eyesore Mickey's. It'll be a Pan-African restaurant.
Speaking of Mickey's, I saw two men with a pick-up truck (VA plates), moving stuff out of Mickey's on Monday afternoon. I yelled across the street to ask if they were starting work in there, and they just said yes, and went back inside the building before I could find out more.
Sorry, I posted the incorrect address for the new Pan-African restaurant. It's 1364, not 1164. Clearly, since it's right across the street from SOVA (1359)
Wow. I wonder if, by "Italian deli," they simply mean "place with good sandwiches," or if they also mean "place where you can get good quality salumi sliced to order, good balsamic vinegar and olive oil, etc." -- i.e. whether they'll be competing with Litteri.
Yes, I can confirm that they will be serving sliced meats and cheeses, like Litteri"s, in addition to sandwiches and other great stuff. In fact, one of the owners told me this morning that "they'll be serving a ton of non- parishable Italian goods"
Does anyone know what's going on in the space directly next door to bad Danny's on the 1200 block right before you get to 13th. Walked by there the other day and noticed a bit of activity. No permits in the window.
Also, does anyone know what kind of remodeling they are doing in the Black Supermarket at 13th and Florida? They've had paper in the windows for a while now but it looks like they are making a lot of changes.
The stuff at the Black Supermarket is just basically rebuilding after the fire. Walter is out there most days, and he is always willing to give updates. Just ask him. He's the older guys with braids in the back and glasses. He also takes daily exercise walks down H in the early morning. He's very friendly.

Your man on the scene,
Frank from SOVA, or should I say Sova

I hope it's more like Litteri's, but I also hope they keep reasonable hours, unlike Litteri's.

MMMM-mmmm Good!
More good food on H!
Yay!
They'd be smart to carry Italian desserts as well!

are there any plans for a White Market in the area anytime soon?
or is that just uncouth?
does that place sell contraband, or is it just a racial thing?
just curious...
I can confirm that the owner of the Black Supermarket is friendly and happy to get open again after the fire he had a year and a half ago.
Actually, he said he didn't know who "Black" was because he bought the store from a Mr. White.
Ha.
I thought it was funny.
But I am EASILY entertained.
