Apparently someone decided to do a little off-roading at the poor Checkers at 14th and Maryland this morning. No serious injuries. Check out the NBC4 story.

Wow. Hopefully no one was hurt.
You have to be a serious *$&%^! moron to plow into the place like that. Look at the angle!

I wonder what the story will be behind this one. My bet's on a.) joyriding 13 yr. old who hotwired car and immediately proceeded to crash it; or b.) another DC crackhead behind the wheel; or c.) Marion Barry (I guess b. and c. are technically the same).

NBC4 story is here:

Vehicle Slams into Fast Food Restaurant

There was a smaller blue car involved, which ended up pointing into the north west corner of 14th & MD - it's just out of frame. The right side of the other car was crunched in, so I imagine some kind of unplanned meeting was involved - I'm inclined to go along with Mari's post about some idiot on an iPhone, though....

This is why drive thru restaurants just don't belong in the city.

this is what happens when the drive-thru directions are not clearly articulated. classic dc!

Oops! I'm sorry, I thought that was the drive through lane!

Actually I ate there last night for the first time ever, and think that some remodeling is long over due, anyway!

Awww. I wanted to make a post joking on it being a "drive-thru," but the last three posters have already been there.

hmmm! I wonder what the jokes would have been if this had happend at noon, when the store would have been crowded with construction workers and contractors working in the neighborhood were on thier lunch hour.

Not Amused

It sucks that the building was damaged, and that the SUV was damaged, but I'd like to reiterate that no one was seriously injured in this particular instance. I'm sure that if there had been injuries the overall tone would be much different.

Im actually surprised there aren't more accidents at this intersection. You've got all the people pulling in an out of the checkers parking lot without looking in either direction, the normal traffic speeding down Maryland ave, the impatient drivers coming up 14th street who whiz through the ``yellow lights'' and the cars coming onto G street who don't seem to realize they have a stop sign at 14th and the ones coming off G st onto Maryland west bound who also disobey the stop sign. All the construction activity has only made driving more confusing and cumbersome and made drivers more impatient. I walk through this intersection at least four times a day and I always have to be on high alert when I approach the curb.

hey anon 9:03,

making up facts to make it not funny isn't going to work. bottom line is no one was hurt so we can laugh about how ridiculous the accident is (especially the pictures with the car "missing the drive thru entrance"). LOL!! take a chill pill.

Excuse me Sherriff going to get Ya. I am not making up facts to make this not funny. I live a block from Checkers and often get lunch there. And it IS crowded around lunch time. It creeped me out wondering if I would have escaped. Melodamatic maybe, but a real fear to me.

ok, anon 9:03/11:11. keep freaking yourself out by ginning up horrifying scenarios involving yourself and unfortunate (sometimes funny) events reported on this blog.

have fun with all that...

You live behind Checkers? That would give me enough nightmares... Just Kidding. Relax. Again.

Worry not 8th & el I'm relaxed. I thought it was funny. It would be a nightmare to live behind a fast food joint. The block I live on is a mostly quiet block. It's still D.C., therefore problems do crop up from time time.
